I am experiencing lag when I am trying to play R3D files in either the source or playback window. The audio plays out fine but the video lags a little bit behind it. When I export the sequence it comes out fine and plays back without any issue. I am guessing this is happening because I don't have a Rocket installed on my computer, I did notice when I am playing back clips my CPU spikes to 99%. I know I am probably pushing my computer a bit, but just wondering if anyone has any ideas or advice to help resolve this issue.

My Mac Pro's Specs:
Model: 3.1
OS: Mountain Lion
Processors: 8-Core 2.8GHz
RAM: 14 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA Quadro 4000
Storage: 12 TB SAS RAID 5

You have an underpowered machine for that task. you can try going into draft mode but I think you may still run into issues. transcoding is best option for that machine. Use 1/4 or 1/8 res and you should be able to transcode in reasonable amount of time. Still won't be quick though.

Try toggling the display quality to all yellow.

Thanks Peter that fixed the issue for now. I know my system is a bit underpowered to be working with 4K RAW files. Just trying to get by until I can invest in a new system. Hopefully later this year.

Also note that there is a debayer happening in the background to the closest debayer resolution to the project type. For example, green/green in a 1920 x 1080 project is a 2K debayer (only render/transcode accesses the FULL debayer). So a green/yellow is a 1K debayer. But in a 720 x 1280 project, green/green is a 1K debayer... so sometimes switching project type for the same green/green or green/yellow combination will get you more performance.

You can do the following

Go to 'tools/media creation/mixdown & transcode' and set the RED debayer to quarter.

You can stay in green mode like this and on the monitor the files look still good enough

Before you export set the debayer back to '1/2' (enough for HD) or 'full' and export the clip.

Easy peasy.

Unfortunately that only affects debayer for transcode and render. It has no bearing on debayer for playback. As I mentioned in by previous post, the payback debayer is automatically set by project type. It will debayer to the next highest quality based on project type. So if 1920x1080, it will do whatever is closest to a 2K debayer id 4K, 2.4 if 5K, etc. 720p project would be 1K, etc...
