I'm going to work on an Epic shoot where we'll need to do some macrocinematography. Does anyone have any suggestions for some PL Mount lenses in the 35 to 85mm range? I know there is a Zeiss CP.2 50mm Macro... is this a decent macro lens?

Thanks

This is a case for the Canon mount - lots to chose from from their line. It seems most Cine lenses are talking head dialog centric. The Canon mount brings 150 lenses into play opening up a whole new range of style and technique. With the Canon mount maybe we can then move beyond shallow DOF . . . ;- )

Me too. Wonder if a Rental House would be smart enough to have purchased one of these to rent for $200/day? Bet there would be interest while we are waiting for production to catch up to demand.

Id actually use an A mount on Epic with Leica 60mm and Leica 100mm macro. I realise you mentioned PL but macro lenses are said to bench mark against the Leica 100mm. You might just beat its look with a Voigtlander Apo Lanthar 125mm but that might be a little ling for you. I beleive you can get both Leica lenses remounted in PL from Dalsa and Van Diemen.

We have a set of rehoused Leica macros for rent.

The Leica macro's are silly good. I like the 60mm because you keep a bit more context around the object.
100mm is good if you need that working distance. Either remounted or in Canon.

Zeiss 100mm Macro ( the new version ) is of course great.

PS technic Skater Scope with wider lenses - like a 24mm UP. is really cool too, focuses to nothing, but costs a bit to rent.

It depends on the level of magnification you want - most macro lenses offer 1:1 or 1:2 magnification ratios and they are the ones you are most likely to find PL mounted. At greater magnification ratios you are in to much more specialist lenses (Nikon 10x, Zeiss Luminars etc ) requiring custom adapters. They tend to be fixed focus, so you'll need a macro bench or slide - depending on whether you want to focus by moving the subject or the camera.

Leica 60mm macro @ 2.8
