Coming from a Canon C300, I've been hunting for a single operator audio solution for the new Scarlet-W or Raven.

I've come across the upcoming/unreleased Video Devices PIX-LR (audio add-on accessory for the PIX-E5/E7 monitor) as it has two XLR inputs and records internally (along with 1080p ProRes video files that could be useful as a backup).

Even better, the PIX-E5 monitor communicates the camera start/stop function using the SDI cable so that seems handy not having to remember to push two separate record buttons each time.

Could this be the golden ticket?

No, I am afraid if you really want the golden ticket, you should look into the OffHollwood OMOD set to be announced today or tomorrow. Specifically the audio or XLR version. That will be the golden ticket, albeit a $2,500 ticket.

I just got my hands on a Pix-E5 and the LR module, and I've gotta say - I'm pretty impressed.

I just landed a sweet recurring gig that's gonna be a simple one-man-band operation. I used to shoot with a DSLR and a separate audio rig (using a Sound Devices MixPre D, which sounds great).
With that setup, I found myself spending an annoying amount of time having to sync up my audio and video files afterward, and I decided that I could simultaneously save time and increase the quality of my video by upgrading to this little combo.

My first shoot was this week, and everything went really smoothly. I was surprised to find that the LR's preamps might actually sound a little _better_ than the MPD!
The other nice plus was the ability to name my files as I was going, which was another little hassle I used to have to deal with in post before.

Long story short - I think it's a great solution for single operator situations, and it makes for a very nice monitor, as well.
