  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Picked up Epic-M on Monday

After reading this thread and the Scarlet page on RED website, I now understand that HDRx is only available up to 12 fps? Is this correct?

6 in 5K, 12 in 4k, 25 in 3k.
Not to be rude but didn't you guys read the annoucement and tech specs and everything else ?

Oh wow. No I did not, until just now. Last time I looked there was no information there. Thank you for the reminder.

Yeah sure ... at 12 frames per second.

What am I supposed to do with 12fps? Shoot the chase sequence in Slumdog for the rest of my life?

Per Jannard, there will be a free firmware upgrade soon that will enable hdrx at 24 fps.

Per Jannard there is the *intent* to *try* to *possibly* enable HDRx 4k @ 24p.

If it doesn't happen we shouldn't cry foul.

To add to that: he said something along the lines of a 'variant' of HDRx -- so possibly not quite the same as what is already available. Anyways, best to not look beyond what the camera is capable now -- and to not infer promises where there are none! In other words: what he said! ;-)

EDIT:

Ok its there in 3K mode and in 2K mode, so I guess the big hope is 4K which would be awesome but wouldn't HDRX in 4K mean more frames overall on all the Ks?

I'm assuming Magic HDR or that alternative to HDRX is another possibility for 4K with HDR?

I don't think that HDRx is going to be as often-used as people think - its a great tool, but I think you'd only use it in very particular situations, and the standard DR of the Scarlet, I think you could work around those situations.

Id be interested to see the pracitacl applications of a sustained 12fps in 5k - would be great for time-lapse, for sure
