  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Philosophy change...

Since we will always believe in the core concept of upgrade instead of "buy it new all over again", I think our customers will always have an advantage over those that invest in other systems.

That is what I really love about the new red!, All tough I am waiting for Scarlet fixed knowing that accessories, modules etc. fit on higher epics etc. It gives room for starters like me to grow.
It is said but understandably that Red has to close the door more but it is a good sign, it means Red is now becoming main stream! Close to the new industrial standard!

Good to hear Jim... No more hyping then a loooonng wait / still waiting... (Scarlet in my case)
Let me know when it's ready, what it does then point me to the store. :-)

Hi Jim,

As a rental company, RED's earlier philoshopy of letting people know what is coming is best because then they can plan their investments.Had I not known that EPIC is coming , then maybe I would have purchased some Alexa's....and rued once EPIC would have been launced...as some guys here are doing after they saw our EPIC-M....Maybe I am being selfish in thinking about by own business only...

Why not Joseph, I think you're pretty good at it already!

:)

LOL

(friendly pat on the shoulder...)

For one, REDrumors would be infringing on their trademarks. Better to keep peace. RED is an interesting company. Small enough to have that personal touch, but big enough to lead the industry. I'd rather not cross blades with the combination of those two. :D

Congratulation to that. I can see you have more confident to shoot out more products even with the new philosophy.

Understandable. You've given us a ton of dreams and expectations, and having already fulfilled many of them for so many, this policy is great timing! :)

So... does this mean that we're going to get more announcements this September as previously said or not anymore?

No announcements prior shipping for Scarlet prices & package ?

Every decision has its downsides..
In the past, when RED was the underdog, they needed to get our attention, so they had to let people learn what's coming. Also the competition did not take RED seriously..
Now things have changes.. RED has our full attention and the competition is scared from the "RED" threat.. So it makes perfect sense to change the policy..

The "APPLE" strategy of not announcing products in development and planned feature specs until shipping - or immediately before shipping - seems to be working okay for them ....

Up 'til now, we have said what we are "going to do".

As of now, that has changed (we promised that everything is subject to change... including our strategy).

We will only announce new things when they are done and ready to ship. That includes Scarlet and all other new products and accessories.

We used to go by "always late but worth the wait". That will no longer be the case because we won't telegraph what we are planning anymore. There will be no possibility of us being late. No more "we expect this to be done by..."

From now on it will only be "Here is is and we are ready to ship".

Jim

Well said Mr. Jim, Red's growing up, it just need a bit times and experienced, I believe it's pretty closer & all the Red user gonna be with you...
Cheers for you and your team...

It must have been painful to listen to all the whining (myself guilty as charged) when a change is announced, and suddenly people feel cheated. RED seems to have matured into a company that knows better what the users want than the users themselves. Congratulations on that! After all, this has been the whole premise of RED; I don't recall any crowds petitioning Mr. Jim Jannard to launch a new company and reinvent digital cinema.

Yes, just look at their latest professional products, like a certain "X" software...Uoops...:w00t:

The right way to go. Full supportive.

At least this way, the team can suprise us even more.

Agreed with Mark's comment - works fine for Apple, why not RED. And their small enough to give that personal touch too.

:-)

It is unfortunate that we will no longer have a 'front seat' to see where the technology and the industry is going. I, for one, loved hearing about all the new products and tech well before they were launched. The delays -while frustrating- were also understandable. But perhaps I am in the minority.

I can understand why this decision was necessary: most people clearly cannot cope with 'live' development, and all the news of delays seemed to be ruining their health! So Red has taken a decison that will be good for the majority. And not forewarning the competition is also good for Red, for the rivals do not know how high to aim. Knowing the Red gang, I am certain the rivals' aim will always be a bit too low.

Does not mean I am not going to miss all the little tid-bits and insights into Red's future direction. I mourn the -unfortunately necessary- end of an open, transparent era. :(

Jim

I've always loved this idea and actually like the thought of hearing about new products or upgrades when they are available rather than when they are tentatively scheduled for release.
