  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Phantom Power

Will it work through the existing audio ports or will it only be for the I/O module?

Just make sure you're going mic out and not line out as right now Epic/Scarlet can't accept line in.

There is no right now about it. The camera brains do not accept line level inputs. Max signal strength prior to clipping is approximately 0dBu.

For line level inputs you will need the PRO I/O module - which also gives full size XLRs on those inputs as well as digital AES / EBU inputs.

So right now if I used a Sound Devices mic pre then into the Epic/Scarlet I should be good?

my 302 defaults to line level. You have to go into the setup menu to change that to mic level (-40dB is what Sound Devices recommends I believe) I use this mixer in a variety of situations, so my plan is to just buy xlr attenuators ($40 or so) so I don't have to mess with the menu settings on the mixer. I say, learn the setups either way in case the attenuators show up missing when you need them.

The mix-pre can't change to mic out. It's only line level. You need some pads/attenuators then you're gold.

Is there any phantom power box with mini XLR connectors out there?

Not that I know of... but there probably are somewhere... not by SD though. May I ask why you would want to use miniXLRs? Aren't they less robust?

I think the newer version, the MixPre-D, has mic out (for DSLRs)... Just thought I'd mention this in case he was thinking of buying/renting a MixPre and didn't already own one.
