Hi there,

someone has started an online-petition for better CPU usage /performance in Premiere. Thats good, since this has been an issue for quite a while!
If you think "what problem?": render out files and check your cpu usage in the task manager. Mine is also often just around 20% without a reason.
Mostly PC user are effected. There are hundreds of threads online and Resolve is often 2-3 times faster when it comes to rendering. Its awful to have
spent multiple thousand bucks on a PC and not being able to use it. This needs change!

So sign the petition and share: https://www.change.org/p/adobe-systems-premiere-pro-performance-issues

Cheers

Is it dependent on the codec used? As the encoder is giving the job to the CPU. When using the Mercury engine GPU rendering, x264 is less based on the CPU, but when selecting the software render, I have noticed x264 rendering to be 100% on all 6 cores / 12 threads on my system. I don't render to other codecs though, so I can't attest to other encoders.

Codec plays a role for sure. However, Premiere could use some serious optimization. Resolve on both PC and Mac and FCPX on Mac are eating its lunch. Premiere's playback and render engine has seen little optimization or update since Adobe introduced the whole Mercury engine for multiple CPU and GPU accelerated playback. While they're at it, it would be nice if they also updated After Effects to take advantage of such stuff and perhaps look into getting SpeedGrade on board with unified tech under the hood. You know... Stuff that should have been a real priority for them over the past couple years. Things that were implied with how great everything was supposed to be after moving to the subscription model. Uh, huh...
