  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Peter Jacksons Facebook talks about shooting @ 48fps

He doesn't mention the EPIC or RED even once when talking about how they are shooting this @48 fps.

Yeah... Maybe he will go into the finer details in his upcoming video, talk a little more on the camera system side.

I realized my own expectation was a bit skewed. Being that it's a FB page meant for fans and not hardcore production people it makes sense that he didn't get into talking about gear.

I dont think its gonna have a soap opera look, cause its also going to be projected at 48fps progressive. Its not going to have a interlace feel to it. Correct me if im wrong, im trying to figure this out for myself.

For me, this is very simple. I will watch the Hobbit, projected at 48fps in 3D exactly the way he is intending and I will make my judgement then. There's a couple of reasons I feel this way. Peter jackson is a talented filmmaker. He surrounds himself with talented artists and craftsmen. Therefore, first and foremost I expect the filmmaking to be solid. It should provide the perfect example of whether 48fps works for me or not. I do believe lighting, composition, art design, costuming, etc all play into this and I anticipate that I will perceive the 48fps effect differently watching a movie made by Peter Jackson than I would say a cheaply produced corporate video where many of the elements that make good movies will be absent. In other words, the movie should have everything needed to make a reasonable judgement on whether 48fps is a valid format, especially for 3D filmmaking. I have not been the biggest fan of 3D, but I'm trying to keep an open mind and this is a film I am hoping I really enjoy.

I'm hoping they'll project it at 48fps in 2D as well - not sure if that's the plan or not - but I think that will be the deciding factor for me. I'm already pretty sure 3D at 48fps will look better than the 3D we've been seeing...

Yes, I put all my trust in Peter Jackson and Andrew Lesnie to make these kinda calls... Will just have to wait and see. Regardless of what the picture looks like... its gonna be 2 great films, even viewed at 240 resolution! But we get it in 5k! hahaha
