  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Peter Jackson Shoots with Red!!!

Will stills or clips of the footage make it to the RED site during or after NAB???

If Jackson did the grade, then Pablo would've been used. [...]

Are you sure? Given that Jackson is testing RED, he is certainly keeping up to date with the technology. I wonder if he might be trying out newer software as well. On the other hand, for logistical & other reasons it seems likely to me this particular footage would be graded back home. This is sheer speculation on my part, though.

Hey guys Lucas from Assimilate...

Maybe the decision on how the footage was graded belonged to Richard Bluck. After all, it would be 'his' footage... technical-spec wise...
I am sure they have dup. footage to work with on their own, but for RED and the NAB demo all other RED footage has gone through Lucas and SCRATCH. Why would they change with a serious deadline looming? Look at the gear they use page on red.com...

hahaaha... sorry 'bout that thethe (though still bummed that you are the lead singer of thethe-lol-god they were awesome!) though it is now fixed....

Whatever they are grading with, can someone for the love of God, post some framegrabs or a clip on youtube? (Or even better 1080p right here?)

The most frustrating Red day ever.

What is really happening?

Relax!

Go render something.

You'll know soon enough!

....

But I want to understand and know it NOW!!!!!!

You know what, that´s EXACTLY what I am doing... (and while my Mac renders I read up on these news...)

Damn... I am just waiting for some bittorrent files to get completed while you guys actually are rendering... I always knew I was a second-class citizen...

Wow

Wow

Just got back from watching the footage. WOW! The most amazing thing is that everything I saw was apparently 500GB of data.

you know, I think we deserve at least a photo of the booth with some known faces by now... those vegas people - they keep it all to themselves...

I dunno how many of you know this, but for a long time, Peter Jackson's been saying that he's been wanting to shoot a sequel to his ultra low budget horror movie Bad Taste for years, but that he'd only do it if he could shoot it on weekends with a tiny crew like the old days. I bet the Red will be a big help there.
In fact, if it wasn't for the inappropriatness of the subject matter, that could very well be the test footage.

I know from an American Cinematographer interview, from a few months back, that his DP on Kong and Rings, Andrew Lesnie, he has no aversion to shooting digital, it's just that there werern't any cameras that compared to 35mm at the time. Well, here we have it.

500 GB of data? If they used redcode at 27.5 MB/s that would be about 5 hours long.

I believe they use a 4k uncompressed harddisk recorder for the projection.
I think 500GB is like 10 mins or something.
