Great interview Jim, thanks for sharing...I respect Peter Jackson more and more I learn about him, I feel he is actually saying what many of us indie filmmakers are feeling.

"there’s a generation of young people with access to movie equipment that’s cheaper and of higher quality than ever before."

Hell yes :-)

I effin love Peter Jackson's humility, intellect and talent. just a class act...

I also love how you (Jim) still feel the need to "validate" what RED is doing. RED has sold more cameras than decades old Panavision EVER WILL. I think Arri building a CMOS RAW Camera based on J2 wavelet was all the validation RED needs.

imho RED RAY is the future PJ eludes too and Im not sure he knows whats its capable of... EFF the Congloms man, I truly hope Red Ray Pro is going to do what I think it does... and I dont even want to say why I think that, for fear of Sony and Panny trolls... all I know is the old guard better have some great early retirement plans.

From the person who made my favorite movie.
I think he really does have a point there.
We are at a turning point for film history... from the ashes of this tired system will rise a new one led by innovators such as Red... if everything goes right with the roll out of course. ;)

Great article, Thanks for posting Jim!

I am still hoping the financial sector will garnish the respect they deserve.

This year showed us that financial institutions are to be watched closely and do not have ALL the solutions....when accountants make decisions based on accounting practices alone and corporations follow that advice bad things are certain to follow!

I hope Peter is correct in his view that the current financial views are cyclical !

I’m a regular guy.

I’m a regular guy.

A nice interview.

"AUSTIN DALE asks: Many, many, many of your films appear to be heavily influenced by avant-garde cinema.
How have films from the margins of mainstream taste changed the way you view filmmaking and expression
through the cinema, and which films or aesthetic ideas have influenced you the most?

JACKSON: My God! What a question!

I have reasonably broad film taste. I don’t regard myself as at all unusual; I’m a regular guy. I’m a fan of a bunch of different directors,
a bunch of different styles, but I like to think that I’m a regular guy. I like to think that I like good movies and I don’t like bad movies!..."

“Hang on, there’s a generation of young people with access to movie equipment that’s cheaper and of higher quality than ever before.” Cameras like the RED camera. It makes me feel like saying, “If you’re out there reading this, go and get to making movies!” I really feel like it could lead to as exciting a creative explosion in filmmaking as what happened in the 70s.

Yes, sir! :patriot:

I think Peter Jackson is a bit wrong about the business of making movies. Films become more profitable when you reduce the cost of production and marketing. Make more movies that are profitable and you make more money. The Red Camera allows people to make high quality movies on shoestring budgets. This gives a film a much better shot at becoming profitable.

That can be true, but what he did with Lord of the Rings, they spent spent several millions of dollars on it...while getting a return of multiples of those millions of dollars. :wink5:

I truly hope Red Ray Pro is going to do what I think it does

The return of TRUE grindhouse theaters. Indy theaters that Indy filmmakers can distrubute directly to. Worldwide.

REDhouse?

Nice little interview.

It could be longer... Let's say, 20 more questions.
