is there one in the works?

i somehow have a bad feeling that no third party developer will have one in the future (didnt find any hints in the web)

Intel said that you need a new motherboard to support Thunderbolt.
UPDATE: I went looking for the page where Intel said this and could not find the reference. The page had been updated and now talks only of a controller chip that is required. This obviates the basis for the rest of my post, and invalidates my conclusions.

They gave some story about needing access to both the PCIe and Video systems ... which would lead me to believe that you could accomplish it with a PCIe Video card.

I think the simple truth is that it requires Sandy Bridge based MB chipsets.

I think perhaps if a separate "data-only" version of the technology appears, then we may see a PCIe card.

This is not out of reason. LightPeak, as Thunderbolt was known in its prototype stage, was a data only system.

That said, I don't think its going to happen. You can expect it to be a system feature, like a PCIe slot or an Expresscard slot. Not an add in like eSATA or even Firewire.

It's not gonna happen, thunderbolt needs integration with the graphic card/processor. It can't be a card because it is essentially the slot
