There is little doubt in my mind that the Red One will be everything that it’s advertised to be. And it will continue to improve as the software is tweaked.
My biggest questions continue to be what workflow I will use. I (like many) prefer to stay with the PC and either CS3 or Avid but I was willing to go with FCP if the advantages were overwhelming. I thought NAB would offer a first hand view of the options. Now (with the exit of Avid and Apple) that looks less likely.
I am also anxious to build a computer that will work well with Red “footage” (if I can call it that). I try to get a feel for what configuration might work. I know that I’m not alone. Several are trying but I’m not sure how much luck they’re having.
My question is.. Is there a rock solid PC configuration, that can be built now, that will work with CS3 or Avid? My present computer isn’t Intel and won’t even allow me to learn the basics of Redcine. I really need to learn the new workflow I’ll soon be using.
I know the Red team is up to their necks in work and are partnered with Apple but I would sure feel better if they would make a statement like:
“OK PC people… if you’re determined to go down the wrong path, here’s a list of possible configurations that should work with Redcine on the PC side. No guarantees, but you’ve believed in us from the beginning, so we’ll help you as much as we can.”
I wish I could wait a couple more months for answers but if this old dog is going to learn any new tricks .. I need to be doing it now.
Thanks for any help.
