Heading back on a few long flights from Russia back to LA. where we just completed our first REDucation there, I was reflecting on that with every country I'm fortunate to visit around the world, there are always a few people that are the very first adopters of RED, the real risk takers and visionaries that saw first what many now see.
I did an interview at CES in Vegas last January and when I was trying to describe to the reporter what my job was at RED (not an easy thing to explain in one sentence) She defined it at "Patient Zero" which was a fairly good description I thought. First infected with Jim's vision of the Cinema camera for the next generation of movie creators. Well that idea has spread nicely around the globe and as I met the 2 "Patient Zeros" in Russia this week I was starting to think about all the other "Patient Zeros" around the globe and how critical they are to where RED is now as a concept and a company. (you can see a picture Nick and Ivan, Moscow's and St. Petersburg's Patient Zero's here)
I wanted to call out as many "Patient Zeros" as I could think of as I'm traveling across the Atlantic, and just say thank you for all the amazing adventures this crazy RED camera has created, all the wonderful people and fantastic experiences that I've had, and how much you all mean to all of us at RED. I won't put full names here in case some of you don't want the attention, but you all know who you are as the very "first all in" group. I'm sure I've missed quite a few people in thinking about all the places I've been and all the people I've met - these people on this list are those that I've had significant personal contact, time spent and experiences with, that has shaped my view of the world and how amazing and remarkably similar and fantastic people are all over the world.
Then I was thinking that many of you from all these countries come to NAB and IBC every year to meet up and spend time together, so It would be fun to get all of us together that are going to IBC in Amsterdam in Sept. for some food and drink and fun.
And for the even larger group that makes the long trek from your countries to Vegas each year, many of you make a side trip to LA after NAB, so this year I'll try and organize a BBQ and Hangout day for our friends around the globe after NAB wraps up, at our little Ranch getaway Place in Agua Dulce (about 45 min from Hollywood) local wines, tequila and chocolate tasting, the worlds best fresh fruit infused vodka, fine cigars for the smokers, electronic cigs and cigars for the non-smokers, fresh ground and brewed coffees, and of course snow cones for the camp RED kid in all of us, and perhaps a RED shot movie screening in the outdoor ranch theater under the stars. and for those that enjoy a bit too much, there's plenty of bunk beds to crash overnight.
Then if all goes to plan, perhaps a special screening of selected works finished in 4k REDRAY that you all bring from your home countries at the Saban theater in Beverly Hills, a giant movie palace with a Giant screen, 2000 seats and a really nice 4k Christie projector in there now that we are using this theater for a lot of our REDucation screening events. If you've ever wanted to see the shooting you do on a big screen in the glory of 4k we can plan to make that happen.
So here's my short list of worldwide "Patient Zero's" - feel free to add any comments, pixs of your first RED ONE shoot days and your first EPIC shoot days, or anything else you want to this thread!
