Patient Zero

Patient Zero

Hi Ted,

Its a great privilege that you have included my name in your list of Patient zero.

Our company has seen unimaginable growth after we became a part of what I call RED REVOLUTION . The biggest turning point for our company was when we decided to buy a RED camera
After that there had been no looking back.

I really enjoy sessions and interactions with you and look forward to your next visit to India.

Thanks again and hope to see you soon.

Pics of some old days when we all were 'infected'.

Been an early adopter has bee and continues to be an honor!! Been a mention in this great thread as "Patient Zero" is definitely cool!!

Miss you Ted... I'll see you soon buddy... Keep up the FANTASTIC work you are doing!!

Thanks Guys. and Yes Clint, I remember you having a local connection to Agua Dulce... Hoping I can make the post NAB intl. gathering a reality!

and Big Lu - My favorite memory is us that year at Sundance in that crazy crowd with me toting around the early EPIC and you having to act as body guard to protect me (the EPIC camera body is much tougher than my body it didn't need any protection but I sure did as the camera's handler :-)

+ Ted

Explain your job... LOL
Captivating how you touch the world.
Its a gift TED you have this gift to that cant be defined or necessarily explained but it shines.

And when you sat next to me at Sundance I had this feeling that a man like Steve Jobs was sitting next to me
Ted%20Luis.JPG

and this camera he helped developed was gonna be apart of my life for the next Decade easily.

Patient Zero DINO thanks for the affection.

From the bottom of my heart.
Thank you JIM for believing in TED.

You are this incredible upset in a world of heavy hitters, billion dollar companies with the most advanced technology available.
You guys changed the world.
Wholly shit.

Many Thanks to found I am on the list, and this is Percy Fung and Kristy Fung from Hong Kong
We been using the RED camera primary for the last 2 years, cos I found them to be quite different from the others that I may also once own
I shall post some of our photo later on..
Great to be part of the RED family, and we have also host various form of RED training in China, Hong Kogn, Macau and Philipppines.
Amount all we did, REDs were used in 360 Panorama, 3D stereo Movie, Dome cinema, and large venue high res screening filming

I still remember the embarrassed giggles I got from DoPs when I confessed that I put down the deposit.
And how I stopped an entire production company just by walking over its lot with my RED ONE.

Jochen from Munich (Red One #296 - Now EpicX #136)

Thanks Ted! I was great fun meeting you and Brian. And a pleasure to assist with Reducation

As Mark Toia said a page ago, (one of my heros of stunning EPIC images btw) I have indeed opened the Pandoras box here :-)

Now what's just as interesting as all the super early group of RED adopters worldwide, is the continually growing and blossoming group of those coming to learn about the joy and power of shooting RED over the past 7 years now. I meet so many people all over the globe that totally get it and are part of a huge extended family of those that "get it".

For a company that lives and breathes technology, whats so interesting to me is the humanity of it all, and how we are all connected by this tool set and the level of images it creates that provides so much joy to so many audiences of all shape and size, for big and small and giant screens all around the world! My friend Joseph who's in Dubai just emailed me, he should be on the list, and there are many, many others I know I've not put on that impromptu list, so keep mentioning all those out there I missed!

and that super grainy pix of us at Sundance is classic Lu!

Pretty fun.

+ Ted

Ted, you're the real patient Zero. We're all just carrier monkeys!

Im truly honoured to be on such a prestigious list, and im very grateful for what these cameras have done for me in terms of meeting new people on our travels.

Im gonna dig out some more pictures when I wrap today.

I am looking forward to AGUA DULCE, let me take care of the Tequila and perhaps Mezcal (the trippy cousin of tequila).

We are the ones who have to be more thankful to Red, because most of us have made a career and living out of your inventions. You are not only making the best camera in the market, you are creating a whole system of Digital Cinema (capture, post, delivery). You have made an amazing network of people and community.

Maybe I am totally nuts, but Red has VISION, I mean the type of wide vision that turned Apple Computer into Apple Inc.

Why would anybody not use that vision in their professions?

I did, we did and it has been a fun ride.

So thank you!

Thanks Ted for all the background information. Always appreciated.

The first "Patient Zero" I met, was based on the training (2008) at FXPHD with Mike Seymour, someone I knew and trusted a lot since the early PXC times.
It was fantastic to get my first (virtual) contact with the gear in that way for me.

Great to see so many familiar names and faces on that list. As someone who has been on Reducation and a firm follower of this site as well as an enthusiast for the brand and the Red Cinema revolution, its great to see all these people acknowledged as "friends" from the company. A different way of doing business, indeed. Looking forward to the future!

Thank you, all of you who adopt new tech that makes our industry better. I would like to single out one Curt Pair in Arizona. He converted me to a Red fan I hated the early reds. Because it was a lead weight for what I do. Curt put the future of his company on the line because he believed in the RED Epic. He purchased one and all the support gear he could find at the time at the Full price of OMG are you crazy. Only because I trust him I gave it a chance but found huge holes in the design for doing my kind camera work. Curt went to work found a eye piece bracket that worked, Lenses that could Zoom, Quick release plates, quick change Matte boxes, Shoulder rigs, Wireless audio brackets, etc. The Lego kit is and still not complete and still changing but the tools work!. As DP and Steadicam Op working with Curt's Package I have done some of my best work almost every new shoot I do. The Images speak for themselves. Shooting has become a lot fun again. It is nice to see him get honored on the list. He is the biggest RED cheerleader I have ever seen. He must get 20 calla a day doing free tech support. He is someone who is totally on broad with the program. Check out his review of the product

Ted,

Since being "infected" you've done an unbelievably good job of being Red's roving ambassador to the world - spreading the good word. Incredibly well done my friend...

A discussion of "Patient Zero" candidates would not be complete without naming the ground floor employees of Red who took the leap of faith at the beginning: yourself, Jarred, Graeme, Stuart, Rob, Brent, Kelley, Big Jon, and many more.

Thanks Blair and Mike for pointing out my absence from Ted's original list.

Here's a factual look back at my "Patient Zero" history with Red:

In looking back I was one of the very first persons after you (Ted) to be "infected" with the Red virus. I believe it was Spring of 2005 for you - and it was in the Summer of 2005 when my longtime friend Jim Jannard personally explained to me his dreams about a company to be called Red. Then in October 2005 I was invited by Jim to the December 2005 Summit meeting at Oakley Headquarters in which a still confidential group of people from around the industry, all of us under NDA to this day, think-tanked ideas. What an incredible experience that was! I received permission in 2007 to reveal that I was one of the invited attendees who was part of that think-tank. Jim and Graeme Nattress have also revealed that they were there.

In February 2006 I then traveled back to Oakley and did the very first magazine published interview with Jim about Red and Red One (published in Studio Monthly, April 2006 - the article is under my copyright). Link: http://www.studiodaily.com/2006/04/first-look-at-red-2/

I was then incredibly fortunate to reserve through Jim Red One serial number 0008 - Mark Petersen's path to Red One 0006 and 0007 came through you Ted. In October 2007 Jim graciously sold me two of the pre-production city-named cameras - "Hollywood" and "London".

Just 2 days after taking delivery of Red One 0008 (8/30/07) I co-produced the world's first Red One production camera 3D short, using my Red One 0008 and Billy Summers Red One 0013 on the Paracam rig at Paradise FX in Van Nuys. Link: http://www.studiodaily.com/2007/09/3d-with-red-digital-4k-cameras/

As Mike Hastings posted, then right after the 3D production I shipped 0008 to Mike in Florida so he could craft the world's first underwater housing for a Red One camera. In mid-September as Mike posted Ken Corben and John Friday then shot the world's first Red camera underwater footage off Catalina Island. I remember that day well! I was calm and relaxed on the boat knowing the camera was in good hands and Mike had built a strong housing. Thanks Mike!

As you know Ted, because you were there, in early December 2007 I then produced/directed the world's first multi-Red camera sports coverage - it was at the Pipeline Masters pro surfing event on the North Shore of Oahu, with Mike Prickett shooting out in the wave lineup using Red One 0008 in Mike Hasting's housing, Ken Corben shooting Red One "Hollywood" from a helicopter, and me directing and shooting Red One "London" on the beach using an Optimo 12x and at times a Red 300.

The week after that, as you know Ted, because you visited the event, in mid-December 2007 I co-produced with Ken Corben the world's first multi-Red camera field tests at the Pelican Case facilities in Torrance. The crew we invited, and who did some amazing work for the event, became later a "Who's Who" of the Red and Red User world: David Mullen, Brook Willard, Blair Paulsen, Matt Uhry, Jeff Kilgroe, Charles Papert, Ketch Rossi, Tonaci Tran, Lucas Wilson, Darren Findling ("Finner"), Casey Green, Billy Summers, Mike Burton, Dane Brehm, Albert Cheng, Erik Widding, Brian Goff, and Mark Mannschreck. Andrew Benz and Haakon were invited too - but couldn't come. It was an incredible crew of early Red "infected" guys - and they did some amazing work!

Other "firsts" followed, but that's enough of my detailed Red history for now.

I was way happily infected with the Red virus way back in mid-2005 - and it was one of the very best decisions I've ever made in a long career in the motion media industry. I'm deeply honored to have been an absolute ground floor Red adopter. My hat is continually off to the scores of other Patient Zeroes out there. Red has grown from an idea in 2005 to a big worldwide family of Red adopters in 2013. Its been a phenomenal ride ;))

Ted, I have always admired how dedicated you are to traveling the world, getting the word out there about everything RED. Your passion for the products and philosophy behind those products has helped RED as a company become a major player in digital cinema technology.

You have also seen the value in education and that ultimately the more people that are trained on these systems the better it is for RED and the industry.

Thanks for doing what you do and hope things are going well with your health as well.
