Heading back on a few long flights from Russia back to LA. where we just completed our first REDucation there, I was reflecting on that with every country I'm fortunate to visit around the world, there are always a few people that are the very first adopters of RED, the real risk takers and visionaries that saw first what many now see.

I did an interview at CES in Vegas last January and when I was trying to describe to the reporter what my job was at RED (not an easy thing to explain in one sentence) She defined it as "Patient Zero" which was a fairly good description I thought. First infected with Jim's vision of the Cinema camera for the next generation of movie creators. Well that idea has spread nicely around the globe and as I met the 2 "Patient Zeros" in Russia this week I was starting to think about all the other "Patient Zeros" around the globe and how critical they are to where RED is now as a concept and a company. (you can see a picture Nick and Ivan, Moscow's and St. Petersburg's Patient Zero's here)

I wanted to call out as many "Patient Zeros" as I could think of as I'm traveling across the Atlantic, and just say thank you for all the amazing adventures this crazy RED camera has created, all the wonderful people and fantastic experiences that I've had, and how much you all mean to all of us at RED. I won't put full names here in case some of you don't want the attention, but you all know who you are as the very "first all in" group. I'm sure I've missed quite a few people in thinking about all the places I've been and all the people I've met - these people on this list are those that I've had significant personal contact, time spent and experiences with, that has shaped my view of the world and how amazing and remarkably similar and fantastic people are all over the world.

Then I was thinking that many of you from all these countries come to NAB and IBC every year to meet up and spend time together, so It would be fun to get all of us together that are going to IBC in Amsterdam in Sept. for some food and drink and fun.

And for the even larger group that makes the long trek from your countries to Vegas each year, many of you make a side trip to LA after NAB, so this year I'll try and organize a BBQ and Hangout day for our friends around the globe after NAB wraps up, at our little Ranch getaway Place in Agua Dulce (about 45 min from Hollywood) local wines, tequila and chocolate tasting, the worlds best fresh fruit infused vodka, fine cigars for the smokers, electronic cigs and cigars for the non-smokers, fresh ground and brewed coffees, and of course snow cones for the camp RED kid in all of us, and perhaps a RED shot movie screening in the outdoor ranch theater under the stars. and for those that enjoy a bit too much, there's plenty of bunk beds to crash overnight.

Then if all goes to plan, perhaps a special screening of selected works finished in 4k REDRAY that you all bring from your home countries at the Saban theater in Beverly Hills, a giant movie palace with a Giant screen, 2000 seats and a really nice 4k Christie projector in there now that we are using this theater for a lot of our REDucation screening events. If you've ever wanted to see the shooting you do on a big screen in the glory of 4k we can plan to make that happen.

So here's my short list of worldwide "Patient Zero's" - feel free to add any comments, pixs of your first RED ONE shoot days and your first EPIC shoot days, or anything else you want to this thread!

Hey Ted,

great idea!

Im only 758 on the original red one and I moved from Canada to Italy so I probably don't qualify.

Ill post some pics into this post when I am back at a computer, including our first three camera shoot on red one M shortly after delivery.

Cheers,
david

PS I'm really sorry we have not met face to face yet.

My dad and I reserved Red #27 at like 9:10am that first Monday morning, later learned that I'm within the first dozen external customers. I was there on the very first Red pickup in the back of the Oakley warehouse drinking champaign with all of you. There's a fantastic picture of Jim and I on that day. Then on September 12th 2007 I got my first camera from you and this was the first thing I shot.

Hi Shawn,

I knew I would forget a few important super early adopters. Sorry I missed you, been a while since we chatted, but you absolutlely belong on the list, editing and updating now :-)

and David, yes looking forward to meeting you in person one of these days and not just on skype video chat ! you would for sure be in the group with Corrado!

I'm flattered and honored to have made your short list of "Patient Zeros" Ted. I recognize a lot of names on that list, and I don't feel worthy of being in their company. It was an pleasure for Yasin and I to host you during your visits to Istanbul. To be honest, it was sort of surreal. It felt like we were hanging out with a movie star! Thank you for taking the time to meet with us during your busy travel itinerary. To those of us that attended that first meeting, it meant the world.

BTW, my parents live in Agua Dulce, so you can count me in on that party!

Here are some pics. One of those cameras is the 2/3" Scarlet with a fixed lens. I actually held it in my hands... Ted always brings the cool toys :)

Thanks Ted! I'm very proud to have been with you guys since the beginning and I still feel giddy every.damn.time I use my Epic :-)

Thank you, Ted, and all the "Patient Zeros" for all you've done for the REDverse. We've all benefited greatly from your passion and expertise!

The truth is that even if you combine all of us on that list - our effort does not compare to that of the original patient zero - Ted himself.
Ted has given so much of his life to the REDvolution - it has costed him dearly, having have paid with the most precious thing we have - his health.
It is an absolute honor to be on the list and on behalf of all the "regional" and other "global" patient zeros and the rest of the RED community I wish You Ted lots of health - so you can keep spreading the RED virus for many decades to come. By the sounds of things Jim and the team is only just getting started...

:sifone: Peter

Company is gone now but did get to Infect Imagitorium Studios with providing them REDONE 222 and 422.
Fortunately Dinos infection was passed onto me.
Been SICK in the head ever since.

I don't know if I'm the Mike in Florida that's already listed, but (with the help of Ken Corben and Steve Gibby) I was the first to build a housing and put a RedOne underwater - in mid september 2007 - just a few days after Steve Gibby received his serial number 8 at the first Red Day. Ken Corben flew into Ft. Lauderdale with #8 and flew out again 72 hours later. I had done a little prep work beforehand and then with just a few naps in between was able to get a working prototype done. A few days later I Delta Dashed the finished housing to Ken in LA and he, Gibby, and Johnny Friday made the first open water RED shoot and posted in this thread on September 26th, 2007:

"Gibby's-RED-takes-a-dive-Underwater-RED-4K"

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?4786-Gibby-s-RED-takes-a-dive-Underwater-RED-4K

I will always appreciate the faith in me that Gibby showed in letting us use his #8 for an underwater shoot so soon after he got it.

Because of RED, I can remember NAB 2006 like it was yesterday. I've been building housings for Video cameras since 1981. But I was always jealous of my still camera underwater photo buddies because by simply investing $3K or so in a Nikonos camera and 15mm lens - and a $5 roll of film - they could shoot the same quality as the best photographers in the world. Video was great but nowhere near the quality of 35mm motion picture film, but at $700 for 10 minutes of shooting, 35mm movie film was only practical for major movie productions.

Then I walked by the Red booth on the first day of the show. It took me all of 2 minutes to realize this was EXACTLY what I had been looking for. I needed to meet someone at the Panasonic booth (where oddly enough I first met Jarred, he was working the booth in some capacity explaining the HVX200 and the FS100 hard disk recorder) so I didn't get my order in until the next day (SN206) or I probably would have been in the first 50 but I'm pretty sure SN206 was the first in Florida. The Redone is long gone (replaced with Epic SN234) but the titanium R is still proudly displayed on a shelf in my office.

Thank you "Patient Zero's" that have made this happen for the rest of us!

Thanks Guys. and Yes Clint, I remember you having a local connection to Agua Dulce... Hoping I can make the post NAB intl. gathering a reality!

and Big Lu - My favorite memory is us that year at Sundance in that crazy crowd with me toting around the early EPIC and you having to act as body guard to protect me (the EPIC camera body is much tougher than my body it didn't need any protection but I sure did as the camera's handler :-)

Blair, Gibby, Brook - of course I need to put you guys in there! editing again now (I new I was gonna get into trouble by missing some obvious ones!) you'll have to forgive me, chalk it up to 20 hrs of flying and a long layover :-)

Thanks for reminding me! Anyone else I missed, like Sam and John how could I have forgotten them! please add em to the thread here if you want

(btw I'm stil flying - using the planes air wifi now to catch up on prep work for camp RED now that I'm state side.)

This is one list I'm truly honored to be in. Thanks to you, Jim, Jarred and everyone in the Red team for making this a reality. Keep it coming!

Your IBC and NAB plans sound really good, I hope I can make it to both.

I think I was a patient zero in Sydney Australia. I know at #22 we had a Red One long before anyone else. I hd a ball one weekend flying up to show Mark Toia what this Red thing was... back then the whole concept of RAW took a lot of explaining. I also enjoyed having the first Epic and taking it to NZ and immediately taking it down a 65Mph flying fox - filming ! Ahhh those were the days.
