Just a passing thought...
(though I'm sure this is asking too much since so much has been done already)

Would it be possible in the future to trade in the RED brick batteries for the new gen batteries of similar level? So I know there like RED XL etc. so of same par with the RED bricks or level just under? even with paying a small fee or something...

Be nice to head forward with everything from the new system and leave the old system at the door with the trade in.

but understandable if it gets stamped a NO. I'm happy with the trade in as it is just this would be wicked cool too

Batteries are basically consumables. As they only have a limited number of recharges in them, and since early users maybe getting close to the end of their expected life, it's unlikely Red would want thousands of half-dead batteries in their office while giving out new ones for next to nothing.

The bricks are still very useful beyond the R1. I use them to power LED lights and they work great, especially when I'm on location or just want things to be easy.

Nice try... :-)

There are plenty of other good uses for V-lock batteries, e.g. for external monitors, LED lights (try the coollights.biz), video transmitters, and if nothing else: for self defense.

Having said that, I still have some miniDV tapes, can I swap these for the 16gig cards?

u funny. But I am sure people would have laughed harder at the question of possibly trading in a camera for it's full value towards an EPIC after being in the field for 2 1/2 years...

Wow. So Honda allows you to trade in your 2-year-old car at full value towards the price of a new one, and you don't want to buy the tires?
I apologize for sounding rude, and I know you asked in the nicest way possible, but grown men make requests on this forum that I would be embarrassed to ask of my own father.

Imran was just playing a joke.

A better analogy might be that BMW allows you to trade your 2-year-old car at full value towards a new car with tires, internet connetction, iPod, quadrupled acceleration, doubled fuel efficiency, and a sexier look, and you don't want to buy the gas?

Hey.
Gas is not good for the environment.
I should be paid to use gas.

haha...I knew RED would never take the batteries in...I ain't no fool...business is business at the end of the day haha...plus what is RED going to do with a bunch of bricks when I'm pretty sure they got one of those wicked power cells that Google has doing the facility and a mini one for an army of RED cams!

EDIT:
It was a poor thought I do realize haha,

Sorry Jim and team!

I'm probably throwing away the old batteries anyway and buying a ton of the new ones, since I only have two anyhow so it's no biggy to me

btw, we are kinda trading in our BMW's for Ferrari's at full value...
Speed change is massive!

Hmmph. I thought Imran was serious and really wondered if it were possible to do the trade. Guess my joke filter is busted.
