Hi Dan,
I've been following the Paralinx closely and am very interested in it. The only thing I'm missing right now is the multiple receiver option. Do you have a rough timeframe estimate as to when you'll be able to add this feature ? I won't hold you to it but it would really help to know...

And also, if I order this : http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/index.php?t=product/paralinx_arrow-hd
do I get everything I need (cables, etc...) to make it work out of the box ?

Thanks :)

Hi Nils,

We will be _announcing_ the one transmitter to 4 ultra secure receiver solution in November along with details of how it works and accurate time frame.

There should also be some other exciting new stuff to showcase in November before my birthday.

I believe the CVP kit is very complete. They even designed their own V mount bracket with an Sdi converter in it. Nice work CVP!

Hi Dan,

Do any U.S. distributors have this in stock or can I buy direct? Every link I've found has it as backordered... Shooting a feature very soon and would love to have it on set.

Also, if I'm using a power source with only one p-tap and I'm using the p-tap already for powering the wireless follow focus - what is the suggested way of powering? get a different plate with two p-taps? get a splitter for the single p-tap? alternate external power source?

Thanks!

Thanks Dan. Now I'm curious about the new stuff too ;)

Last thing, can you confirm that if I buy one now (CVP seems to have them in stock, right ?) I will indeed be able to upgrade to the multi-receiver solution whenever it comes out ?

@mitch - you could use something like this to split your P-Tap ports:

Anton Bauer Power Tap Multi from Abel Cine:

http://www.abelcine.com/store/Anton-Bauer-POWERTAP-MULTI-Male-Powertap-to-4-Female-Powertap/

Or you could get an Anton bauer or V mount battery plate with multiple ports - depends on what you want to spend and whether you would rather change your battery plate or add a little dongle piece.

Hope that helps.

Regarding Stock - we just had a nice big shipment arrive through customs, we are doing a solid QA cycle before sending to our resale network. I'm not sure if CVP is in stock right now or not (we actually can't be preferential or provide preferential suggestion about which reseller to buy from [they are all great by the way])

@Nils - All Current and future owners will be given the opportunity to Go Multicast (one transmitter to multi-receiver) when it is ready.

Details will be announced in November. No one will be left behind (unless they choose to stay Uni-Cast).

Also, I'd like to say that we at PARALINX really appreciate the interest and excitement around our product, and we are exploring the option of a Paralinx-Centric forum, among other neat little things we can do to help the community.

Best Regards,

Dan

Great to hear that !
Well the CVP website says they do have 13 (well actually 12 now) left, so I hope that's true because I just ordered one, which I want to use on a shoot next thursday ! ;-)
The day you add multicast, I think this device will just be perfect ! Best price, best size, best weight, great range, uncompressed HD...
Can't wait to try it out for real.

P-tap plates with Automatique switch

P-tap plates with Automatique switch

As a data point, I've corresponded with Anton Bauer about the Automatique switch and they state that the plates do not have voltage regulators built-in. Perhaps Panavision did their own modification of the plate to add a voltage regulator.

In any case, it makes sense to double-check with a multimeter, to make sure that you see unregulated voltage (roughly 16V from a freshly-recharged Dionic) from your p-tap, to avoid risking blowing your Arrow due to the harmonic effects Dan mentions. This is what I did before hooking my plate (a V-lock to AB adapter) to the Arrow's regulator cable.

Also, the labeling of the switch is quite misleading. "ON" means "let the camera's record button control the on-off signalling for this p-tap" and "OFF" means "pass the voltage through the p-tap at all times". If the plate is not mounted to a camera, this means essentially that "ON" equals "off" and "OFF" means "on."

YMMV...

Dan,

Once the multicast option is available the Paralinx will be almost perfect for our needs (with one exception), after using it for a while it's range is a limiting factor. I am sure the range is perfect for most users. We are getting around 300 ft. in the air, Line of sight. My question is, is it possible to increase the range in a future version without requiring FCC licensing? I really need something on the order of 1200 + ft.

Well I just received it this morning (thanks CVP by the way, great service), and am amazed by how light and compact it is.
i was hoping there would be 2 P-TAP to USB adaptors included so I could power both the Tx and Rx on batteries, but it seems to be working with the little USB battery I've been using to charge my iPhone. What is the power consumption on the Rx ? How long will I hold on a 7 Ah 5V battery ?

How can I get spare cables ?

Other than that, it seems to be working fine, takes only a few seconds to connect and there is indeed 0 delay. Can't wait to try it out on my next shoot !

@Wendell - we are in development of something very neat, but these things take time and lots and lots and lots of $$$.

We don't want to give our competitors a leg up so I can't describe it until it is just about to ship.

@Nils - thanks!

The receiver draws 2 amps. 7ah should do around 3-3.5hours.

A 1amp battery will run the receiver but range might be mildly restricted.

As for additional P tap cables the reseller network should be stocking tem and I have to talk to the distributor about making sure they are advertising them correctly.

We have a new version of our P tap cable coming out called Regulator (TM)

Everyone will love Regulator (TM).

Obviously we are huge Nate Dogg and Warren G fans.

No Daniel, it is not a free upgrade, but we may be able to offer them as an upgrade special. Regulator is a brand new accessory cable. It has the same functionality as the original Ptap to USB cables, but is longer, and can charge iPhones.Other companies don't even include p tap cables with their kits. (no need to name drop here)
If you email me we can talk more about it.
Best,Dan

Dan,

That's great to hear. I will be patiently waiting to see what you come up with. I wish someone would bring out a descent pair of HD video VR goggles.

Do you have any tips on getting the most range from the system? Any particular orientations? Spacing away from other components?

Thanks

Regulator (tm) will be in reseller hands in about a month.

We should have it done in manufacturing in roughly 2 weeks.

the viewfactor P tap will run the transmitter. It's a near design but I recommend taping the micro USB port on the VF device to its cable with e-tape.

As for orientation - ventilation around the RX and RX are good (shield is not suffocating the tx)

The antennas are on the opposite ends of the hdmi ports, so pointing them at each other and having them elevated will help you.

We are going to do some instructional videos - before Halloween.

Best,

Dan

Arrow RX / Tx set is $1199

Shield is $109

Additional P tap cables retail for $99
Will have some very informative videos sOon.

Shooting a commercial in Vegas area right now.
