  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Pancro IR Mirror + ND Filters

Is there any real practical downside to using an IR hot mirror with conventional ND's other than stacking and reflections with in the mattebox ?

thanks,

Dave

Not really.

Some mirrors may have fragile reflective deposit that may be prone to scratches, however Pancros use extremely hard metal deposit, which is tougher than any optical coating you can find.

Nothing else comes to mind other than need to be careful with reflections. You can not use dichroic filters behind mirrors for the same reason as you can not stack mirror-type filters.

Other than this I can only see advantages of ND mirrors over absorption filters, like colour accuracy, excellent off-axis performance even in wide angles, extremely even spectrum transparency, etc..
