Panasonic TC-P50VT25 50", Bought in OCT 2010. Thought it was burned in enough, but I guess not??

After working on a few projects that had lower thirds and bugs that where on the screen for over a day, I am having those bugs burned into the Plasma.

I had a f*cking heart attack. Anyway, trying to use tools to wipe the image clean.

Any thoughts??

Alex, i don't have a fix for you, but i use this monitor via an I/O box for color/editing work. I like it for what it is...and just fine IMO for tv work i do.
anyway, there are a lot of menu settings on that monitor where you can have it turn off or go black after so many minutes of sitting idle. I can't remember where i set it up on mine, but i assure you it's there. When on a FCP edit, i often forget to turn the monitor off while working on my LCD displays since i have only the Monitor hooked up for playback. So, when working on an image on the LCD and doing some keyframing or some other effects work or just rendering, the image will sit idle. So be sure to set it up so that the monitor turns to black after so many seconds of idle.

i thought they had fixed this issue with plasmas many moons ago. Is this seriously still an issue on new plasmas???

I have no idea, I'm kinda of pulling my hair out right now waiting to see if it goes away. I am going to yell at panasonic as soon as I get a free second. It just one of those things where I am so busy doing other things around the studio, I don't have time to be on hold with Panasonic for hours and hours.

So I am thinking 400 hours burn in before you use the monitor. Someone said 100, I did about 200, so now its to about 400.

bloody hell.

After talking with Panasonic and reps, IMAGE PERSISTENCE is 100% not covered by any warranty ever.

If you take the PLASMA out of the box, get a bug burned in, you just bought yourself a $2500 paper weight.

BUYER BEWARE.
SO LAME.

How again did this happen to you? did it sit idle with an image on it for several hours? Or did it come with a burn in?

I have no F*ING idea, I was editing some stuff with lower 3rds bugs, had to leave the studio, for some reason it didn't power down? I have no idea.

Just bought it in OCTOBER of 2010. Been running the window cleaner for a day, like 90% gone, but if you are on a white screen you can plainly see it.

Love wasting money.

This truly is a tragic issue. But one thing we should all know about these plasmas is NOT to let them sit idle. Done editing or walk away from the monitor for a coffee and you get stuck 15mins with a donut...better to hit the little red button. I have to say, i do this all the time because i know of the burn in issue. NEVER leave it on and walk away. There are plenty of warnings on this with the monitor and we should all know this as well. So can't necessarily say it's Panasonic's fault. Turn that thing off when you step away...even if you think it's for 30secs.
Sorry to hear about it....

The B.S. Part is that I read how these monitors had solved the Image Persistence issue, etc.

It was $2500 for crying out loud. To be honest their isn't enough warning about it in the manual. Not anywhere does it talk about it.

Yes - they made lots of noise about Plasmas no longer having this problem... sad to hear it's still there and that they won't cover it for you.

To say I am Bummed out about this is an understatement. I mean we are a tiny shop with one edit suite, its not like we have a huge facility.

The FAQ on the product page has this to say:

The manual has the following and a bit more to say:

As a prospective Plasma buyer, this is disheartening. Marketing-speak that I have received is that "burn-in on plasmas is no longer a problem!". Or "just don't let it sit for the first couple hundred hours and you'll be fine".

Obviously, that is not the case. Panasonic (and no doubt other manufacturers) are aware that the issue persists. Personally, I think there should be a big 'ol peel off sticker on the monitor that says "leaving this display turned on with a static or partially static image displayed will cause permanent damage".

Alex - do you have the screensaver enabled on the monitor? Is there a way to program it to automatically do wipes (i.e. power-on, do corrective wipes for 30 min every night)?

I'm definitely sorry to hear about your scenario, Alex. Hopefully, it makes you feel a little bit better that you may be saving others the hassle by posting about it here.

It's not burned in. It's image retention. There is a difference.
It should go away.

You don't need special tools to make it go away, just put it on "snow"/random noise empty TV channel.

This Plasma doesn't allow that. It shows noise for a second, then it goes to black and says

"Channel not Avaialble" (no signal)

In Menu setttings:
SET your monitor to turn off after an appointed amount of time that it sits IDLE!
This should save you a lot of hassle and $$. Of course if it's already happened....then i suppose it's cooked.

The thing that is weird is that it was set so that it would turn off, but with this monitor if you are using other imputs, like ethernet or SD slot, the settings for turning off the monitor or enabling a screen saver don't work. I am still trying to figure it out, but I think that is what happened.
