Quantel's first software only product set to take big workflow role for post houses

3 February 2011:

Quantel today released Pablo PA, the company's first standalone software only product.
Announced at IBC last year, Pablo PA is designed to help Quantel customers get the maximum value out of their high-end eQ,
iQ or Pablo suites by handling conforms, preparation and workflow, allowing the main suite to concentrate purely on client-focused work.
As a standalone system, Pablo PA also offers facilities houses that don't currently own Quantel systems a low cost way to benefit from Quantel's high quality post tools.

Pablo PA has all the Pablo V5 color, multi-layer timeline effects, import, export, archive and conform tools, as well as the Stereo3D toolset.
It also supports RED and DPX soft mount of third party storage for instant access to media, and will handle conform verification,
RED shot selection and live debayering as well as file i/o. When work is complete, only the 'recipe' of what's been done on Pablo PA needs to be transferred to the eQ, iQ or Pablo,
saving valuable time that would otherwise be spent moving media.

I heard it's around $8000.

Is this a full standalone color correcting app like the $999 Resolve or must the tool be used with an existing Quantel setup with its other products?

$8k for an assist station, that you must use with it's big brother? Well, if you have Pablo, it's no brainer. Otherwise, move along, nothing to see here...

Wow, that's a really great offering to fill in the conform and project prep part of the process.

Tim . . . .

Its a FANTASTIC tool for conforming and keeping the box free for creative work.

What's even cooler is the new SOFT MOUNT option in the new REV 5 software that allows you to start working right away on "looks" right from the R3D.

The new stereo 3D timeline in REV 5 is also KILLER for simplified S3D workflow

It's an assist station. Kinda like the "Looksbuilder" app for Magic bullet. Like folks have said, if you're already working on a Pablo, it's a no brainer. Otherwise it's an overpriced piece of junk.

Pablo PA is a really interesting product and we have two over here. It do need some more love from R&D but they will release an update at NAB with GPU acceleration which sounds great. I also hope for I/O via third party cards but that's further down the road.

I actually have one Quantel Pablo PA with 1 year support contract for sale. I also have a 10% of final price reward for anyone helping me get a signed deal on it. Just contact me for details, it's cheaper then from Quantel. =)
