The P+S Technik Interchangeable Mount System consists of an intermediate positive lock (PL) mount
on camera side and various lens mount adapters (picture below).

Aren't we all lucky now?

Very good :sorcerer: Sanjin : very very good ? finally i think you will find your Leica LENS mount adapter  I am happy for you,
But i am warry not about hte coast only But about f stops lossing here is it could be possible lo0ssing some light through those adapters?

Hi Bassam,

I wouldn't be worried about "...loosing f stops..." with these as they appear to be pure mechanical adapters (other than the one for a B4).

Sanjin,

What is of concern is that these don't appear to be intended for anything other than the P+S adapter. These wont work with the RED as it appears that the FFD would be way off (just look at the dimensions) if used in front of a RED PL mount.

Consider that the FFD of a PL mount lens is greater than many of the candidates that these are intended to be used with, so unless this thing violates several laws of physics, its a nice find, but not appropriate for a RED application! Also, these appear to be all hard mounts so no FFD adjustment.

Too bad, would have made life so much simpler. Good work on the search non the less.

Alien,

they are for both the SI and the new pro and mini 35. They also openly ask to license it on their webpage.

I pointed those out awhile back. One would have to fabricate a whole new front end (sometimes refered to as a standard) for the RED camera. If it's even physically possible. And that standard would have to be zeroed in on each individual camera to make the seperate mounts interchangeable. Nice cottage industry for someone though.

It does mean that it's compatible with the standard. These adapters mount to the camera body very near the imaging plane so they can make them very shallow, for mounts like C.

Guys I don't know to much about details either because first I'm not a mechanical engineer...

A good point about those mount adapters is, if they all work with RED, you could to stay with PL mount as basis :sorcerer: :ninja: .

Also the question arises how Steven Soderbergh used anamorphic lenses on RED(?).

He was mostly using Panavision anamorphic lenses in his films before.

Did Soderbergh "Panavised" RED?

How he got PV mount on RED?

Maybe it was P+S Technik PV mount or another one (original Panavision PV to PL mount)!?

By the way FFD (Flange focal distance) for Arri PL mount is 52 mm and FFD for Panavision PV mount is 57.15 mm.

I asked them, this is what they had to say (prices included):

Hello,

thank you for your email and your interest in our products.

The Interchangeable Mount System we are offering as an open standard to the
professional digital film market. That means that everybody who is
interested could buy it from us and could implement it into the products he
would like to.
You could use the IMS mount system for all single chip camera systems,
depending on the mechanical measurements (see attached IMS-Specification).

There is also one more attachment, the datasheet about the different lens
mounts you could choose.

The prices are the following:

23489 Camera mount (without shims) EUR 420,00
18431 PL-Mount EUR 205,00
18384 Panavision Mount EUR 371,00
20506 BNC-R Mount EUR 371,00
18381 Nikon Mount EUR 236,00
18382 Canon EF Mount EUR 236,00
22646 Canon FD Mount EUR 290,00
18383 Zeiss Contax Mount EUR 236,00
18380 Leica R Mount EUR 256,00
22600 B4 Mount EUR 1.019,00

For a special price package please tell us how much units you would like to
order from the different article numbers.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best Regards

Hi,

The FFD is not the only issue. PL to PV won't work as the PV mount is wider so many (if not all) lenses would not fit.

Sanjin,
Sorry to correct you for once, but these adapter-mounts will not fit on RED but only on the P+S interchangeable mount, which is new and different from anything we know. This interchangeable mount will be fixed on the camera and you put whatever mount you wish (from their list) on top of it. As Chuck Colburn pointed out already, you would have to custom-build your own P+S Interchangeable mount for RED first. Needless to say, this is a tricky thing. Once you achieve the quality you are looking for, it will be a versatile solution for any Indie shop. If RED blesses or even adopts this P+S thing, or P+S offers a RED mount (like Birger does), I think this could be big.

This intermediate mount is fine for a focal screen projection system (such as the P+S one) but its inappropriate (in mechanical terms) for use with the RED. The reason is simple, the total length of a two part mount exceeds the FFD for many of the lenses that people want to use with the RED.

Peter,

when I get RED in January then later on I will visit and bring RED to P+S Technik in München and they will found solution for sure.

There is no necessity to find a solution, the process is actually very simple, however, it must be applicable to the RED, not an adaptation of something that won't work due to the fundamental differences in the applications.
