Does the P+S Technik IMS Mount void the current Red One warranty. And if so, does that affect train-in value of Red One to Epic?

Thanks Mr. Weiss. I guess a bit more due diligence on my part, I should have found that thread. Thanks again.

It was a huge topic exactly one year ago. Martin and I headed up many threads about it! Would have been a nice addition but potentially could have caused hardware damage to the Red.

Shame because it's a great idea.

And the topic itself remain a mystery. The question is why RED and PS cannot find the solution over this problem.

I think the mount systems on the EPIC and SCARLETT will probably answer that question.

I dont know, but i dont see any reason why warranty should be voided just because of that. Something more than that and we dont know.

Unfortunately, people put the mount on and cameras blew up. Then customers expected us to warranty the problem. Didn't seem right or fair to us. P+S makes great stuff but never resolved this particular issue.

I see...thanks for the clarification from RED side so we're not left in dark and trying to figure out what is actually happening.

The damage of camera it could happen to everybody who without any "technical knowledge and experience" opening, taking parts and "doctoring" RED1.

I agree with the fact that if you broke something on any product that is done by you or customer side then there is no warranty can save you after that.

Then you should pay that repair as a customer but do not expect that costs could be covered by the manufacturer.

Btw, everybody knows here that I was one of the first "self-installers" of IMS for RED1 and nothing bad happened to the cam

till today even after many rentals to different and sometimes so "wild" users from indie market here in middle of Europe.

Also my RED1 camera was successfully upgraded with the new audio, CF module, cleaning inside, i/pins installation, etc,..

and because of that it voids the warranty I paid for that update about US$2.500 to Red.com, Inc.

It was not free upgrade like for every other RED1 owner that didn't void the R1 warranty...

I do not complain about that payment but could somehow complain about the fact that

my RED1 (#694 early reservation holder) is out from RED1 to Epic-X trade in program

just because of that I do have IMS installed on R1.

It's a pity...

After all I hope that my RED1 is not out of upgrade rights to Mysteruim-X !!??

It's a gorgeous camera system together with IMS that you can swap fast and easy almost any of still or cine lenses.

No any camera system can do it @ 4K, 120 fps @ 2K, etc,...

Have a look on some photos from a "famous" and still "healthy" RED1 #694 and also watch some of "Quick & Dirty" brand new tests from today:

Sanjin,

I'm sure or the rest of my life, I will be hard-pressed not to think of you when I hear the word Leica. :) Sorry about the IMS, but it all evens out somewhere down the line. Your contributions are appreciated. Keep those Leica shots coming buddy!!

Michael,

I do not owe only Leica lenses and also have Canon FD, Canon EF, Nikon AF, Nikon DX, Carl Zeiss, Angenieux, Cooke, Sigma, Tokina and Tamron lenses.

Hope this helps.

True but I sense the Leicas seem to have a special place. Am I wrong?

Hi Sanjin, after i read back Jim's reason. I guess the point here that need to be taken into consideration is PS never resolved this issue therefore they have to make decision to void the warranty and not because of the user's fault.

I'm so close to purchase this mount last year..and this warranty void is very unfortunate. But since Epic and Scarlet "maybe" close to release, the hope for open discussion between RED and PS again seem to be diminish. And since the announcement has been made, i guess it's final.

Michael,

not at all and just because of that legendary set of Leica M lenses together with discontinued R series are one of the best FF35 still photo lenses.

New Leica S series lenses that have close to the middle format diameter circle size are outstanding.

RivaiC,

to make it clear to everybody here, RED users, RED Team, P+S Technik, guests, etc,...

I did IMS installation long before RED announced R1 to Epic-X trade in program so I din't know anything about a sort of consequences that I will loose R1 upgrade

just because I put a "wrong" mount on my RED1 that btw, didn't "harm" the cam at all.

From my today's perspective I can consider that fact of "loosing" Epic-X upgrade path as a sot of "punishment".

But just look at this "beauty" (I call it "Belle de Jour") on above pictures, watch the tests and ask yourself is that RED1 #694 (early reservation holder) "deserve" it?

Considering your situation before the announcement was made is not that fair i know, i agree it's a difficult situation and knowing the fact that nothing happen to your camera as compare to other guy. I hope RED can make a special exception for you..

I can claim that this RED camera #694 deserves a sort of "amnesty" and can be "pardoned" by RED.

RED could do this sort of "exception", that's for sure.

Also RED1 #694 (with IMS) was successfully participated by now "historically famous" RED Alert B20 public test done at Saturday, June 6, 2009>>>

Sanjin, I remember you were a strong advocate for the ALLSTAR shoulder-thingy. I see you bought the Mantis instead. What made you change your mind? :-)
