  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

P+S TECHNIK IMS Camera Front for RED One

The only problem I can see is that it looks like the IMS replaces the RED backfocus system

I think IMS has it's own back-focus adjustment system but maybe Sanjin
has more precise information

Hi Laguun,

With a beam splitter you should only loose 1/3 stop light. A focus puller should not pull looking off a monitor they will always be late focusing after the event.

Advantages:-
Viewfinder & camera requires no power.
I can see the lighting far better through an optical eyepiece. (I have never seen a working RED EVF)
I prefer working looking through an optical eyepiece, I don't like operating using a monitor or any digital eyepiece including Accusine. After a couple of hours I get a headache if the eyepiece is in colour.

Stephen

hm, i have to say that i cecame rather critical of OVFs since the accuscenes and sony vfc-30s.

- you loose one stop of light...
- pulling focus by eye isnt doable in 4k with an ovf.
- you see more than the recorded area on the red evf

what the main benefit you would like to get from an OVF?

"Who is going to do the modification? What is going to be modified?

The modification is offered by P+S Technik and will be accomplished by highly qualified service technicians. In the future, service trainings will be offered by P+S Technik, so that also locally certified technicians can modify the camera front.

In order to equip the RED One with the IMS Mount, the camera front will be replaced completely. The installation of the sensor inside the camera is not going to be modified. Furthermore no parts of the camera, apart from the camera front, are changed or substituted.

The IMS camera mount – part of the new camera front – is collimated to the sensor of the RED camera with adjustments shims like on a professional film camera. In this process the installation of the sensor is not affected. However problems with the flange focal distance – resulting from the original installation of the sensor upon the board – are not balanced.

A re-modification to the original design will be possible, but should only be done by P+S Technick technicians or trained technicians."

Somebody could ask the P+S Technik representative at NAB about PL OVF solution for the IMS on RED.

This is great... but just so everyone knows, as soon as you, or anyone else does this modification, your warranty is immediately void. ( already happened to the guy here who donated his camera for the test  )

It's not a surprise.
But let me ask you...
The warranty is immediately void because you think installing IMS can cause problems.

Or

Its joust a marketing choice?

Or because a non-Red employee just sliced off the PL mount?

Now....what if one of them Red employee's could pre-install the IMS prior to shipping - without roostering your warranty?

Intriguing, my pretties, intriguing....

As soon as ANYONE opens up the body, the warranty is void. Doesn't matter if its Mr. Ninja PS tech, or Joe Blow.

You guys can mess around with the flash module side plate, and the PL mount front ring all you want, but if you start to see the internal boards to the camera, you've gotten yourself into trouble.

Does the Birger mount void the warranty?

Hi,

Buying a second hand Red if you plan to modify it in any way would make sense!

Stephen

The bottom line is that by "volunteering" to participate in the IMS on RED

experiments (a.k.a. being a "RED camera guinea pig" as Barry Green wrote here),

I already picked up immediately void of warranty (as Jarred wrote).

So I should continue with experiment and also to tell everyone that

my RED is performing extremely well.

It is ON for a couple of hours daily in a super steady conditions

just thanks to the excellent and probably a perfect inside build.

Does the Birger mount void the warranty?

We havnt seen the final one here in RED so I cant say at this point exactly, but most likely the Birger mount will not affect the warranty (from what we have seen in the past)

Also I should add that I do not have IMS installed yet and I was providing my RED that PST can have a look for a possibility to build that mount option.

Now hot waiting for the Birger EF that I think is going to get faster in my hands then IMS.

Sorry to all but I'm a crazy RED experimentalist as I wrote once before.

We didn't do any of the things that Stuart, Jarred, etc asked us not to... I won't speak for Jarred or RED, only Birger... We remove the PL mount (nothing more), and only attach to an external LEMO connector. I think we are cool. Jarred obviously can't validate this statement until he gets a chance to play too.

Sanjin, unless the situation has changed since last fall, in my understanding the P+S Technik EF-adapter is dum. When the SI-2K came out they talked about an EF-adapter. But when started to ask in more details, they said it is not a proper one. So, you won't be able to set the aperture. I spoke about this last fall with a manager of SI, and he said a proper EF-mount is possible and pointed to Birger web-pages.

If all is going well I will ask PST to make adaptation of Birger EF to IMS.

Then I would get a paradise option.

All mounts in one and swappable.

PL, PV, Birger EF, Nikon F advanced, Leica R, Leica M, Zeiss/Contax, M42, B4 and only 4/3 would is missing.

That should be the next Birger job for RED.

But 4/3 lenses claim that are the best and designed for only for digital one sensor cameras.

Almost an ideal lens option for Scarlet because of the 4/3 size lenses that are about 3K size.

Also there are some 4/3 lenses that are almost guaranteed CA free (Leica D Summilux 25mm f1.4).

Absolutely.. there should be absolutely no problem with the Birger mount in terms of warranty, and as soon as we get one here we can confirm.

...better send one to me ASAP so I can confirm as well.
