  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Oz the Great and Powerful

I noticed our screen was a bit blurry. At first I thought it might be the camera but when they played the credits, the text looked a bit blurry too (which would never have focus problems).

I found the images a bit soft/blurry—especially the focus on the eyes. When they cut back to CG it's sharp, like the China doll's eyes. Not sure if they're using any filters in post that would be causing this.

Well, there are 100 year old large format contact prints that show an astonishing depth/dimensionality when compared to more modern materials. Some of the first images I saw from Epic hinted at at this elusive quality. Don't ask me how or why, I just know that it is one (digital) quality I am looking forward to maturing, particularly in cinema. Resolution combined with high DR are certainly an important part of the equation. Epic monochrome is pretty spectacular. And now, of course, the DRAGON is about to enter.

I've been around for years coming up with new camera technologies and mechanisms. Tonight I have been devising a new way to stabilise camera. I will have to prototype and test, as the flow of forces are a little complicated to map in my head. Also devising new accessories mechanisms tonight. I am aiming to sell some of my camera innovations off to high turnover manufacturers. Red is,only scratching the surface of what can be done.

Which reminds me, a 3d volumetric space/holographic camera should be possible with some techniques I am contemplating, which would record the internal surfaces of an object and behind them.

The way I see it, if red is just scratching the surface, they are scratching the right surface, and one that few others seem to be scratching. Whatever the case, the "depth" I am talking about is not the in your face sort of "3d" affair, but the subtle illusion of space/depth within "2D" images. I believe that is part the holy grail.

Looks visually interesting, but man the plot looks as dried up and used as always and the the casting choices? another one down the gutter.

Yep, good point. The in your face should be used rarely and as an effect. Do you know that there have been numerous pseudo 3d on 2d effects for years, and now the patents would have run out on many of them. You could use them on your 2d releases if there were packages.
