do you guys think springing for hybrid seagate drives would make the raid 5 run noticeably faster? I'm trying to get a decent little drive system that is speedy and big enough for a little gig or so. So I am debating the 3.5' thunder bay raid 5 vs the mini unit that runs on 2.5'. Basically I do a lot of gigs where I get slow single drive solutions, tiny graids, and thought a raid 5 is the way to go. The larger unit is great besides for form factor, smaller unit lacks capacity so tough to choose really..

for reference i have the new macbook pro high end with rocket x, so the kit is mobile and solid just need some decent storage..

Brian, I just took delivery of two of them loaded with 4TB drives provided by OWC (they are toshiba drives). Using the Softraid software set to RAID5, I'm getting about 500mb/s during tests using Blackmagic's disk test. I've only had them for a few days but things seem to be working nicely. I'm using them as offload drives as well as scratch volumes but so far so good. Nice compact solution too.
