  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

One thing I am really hoping for at some point with the new range is an overlay mode, to overlay another image for frame matching etc... It would really be a godsend for me with some of the work I do. I don't know how easy this would be to integrate into the tech.

Fantastic Idea.
To somehow save "keyframes" on the camera would be nice - so there is reference there to previous scenes after the drive's gone, for general reference and for frame matching... sounds gimmicky, but it would be actually really fantastic in lots of situations - matching light, eyelines, etc, even if you had to switch instead of overlay. It doesn't sound impossible in a camera that's supposed to be also usable for stills (DSMC). In fact, reviewing stills would be essential in such a camera.

Mind you given the fact that even the 2/3" scarlet will have a nice amount of room from original shot to output resolution for reframing etc... would be nice to have the overlay option either SD or I guess you could do it with some kind of live view with SDI on a laptop....which would be fine for conttolled environments but bit more tricky for the field.

SI 2K has that overlay mode you are talking about. you can literally use a frame grab with the laptop it's hooked up with, and reduce opacity in photoshop and overlay the image to match ur shot from another time. seeing as these new generation cameras can do STILLS too... might not be a hard feature to implement.

Wow that would be an awesome feature. Would defn help to prevent future problems for editors

I didn't see this thread. I just posted the exact same suggested earlier today.

This would be a great addition that seems like it would be easy to implement. If you could save (internally, to CF card, to a usb thumb drive or to internal memory on future cameras) screen grabs to reference when ever you wanted it would save time that might otherwise be spent waiting for VTR playback or referencing a screen grab/video from somewhere else.

You could have several options such as an overlay where you could change the opacity until you start to see the live image underneath, or two images side by side (live and saved still) or you could show half of one image and half of another in full screen mode. It's a brilliant and quick way to match color temp, exposure, composition and eye-lines.

Recently I've been shooting several docs all over the place and often there are weeks/months in between shoots. Wouldn't it be great to have a CF card full of screen grabs from the interview you shot in London six months ago that you wanted to match with an interview you're shooting today ? I think so. Also, it'd be great for blocking and matching eye lines. Often a CF card has already been offloaded and erased, but you'd like to see what you shot an hour ago. this would be perfect.

If you were haunting these boards last year when we had a reason and unreasonable requests for features on the camera I did mention it. It would be ace if they listened. RED always have at least one ear and an eye open at all times...

Then again I guess it would really just need a firmware update maybe in the future...if it is even possible - which I don't see why it wouldn't.
