  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Our Davinci Resolve PC BEAST...

That's so cool machine :)

AnotherGUI is also a nice front-end for Prores rendering, and it's free. PRHelper looks more advanced though.

Richard, would be cool if you manage to run a the GeeckBench benchmark. I'm quite curius about the power of your setup.

I have a Dual 2680 2.7ghz 8 Core. Running on the Z9PE with x1 NVidia 680 4GB. Water Cooled, GPU temps at 45C Full load CPU 52C. Air Cooling had GPU at 95C... and would lock up. Also Rendering 22FPS Epic 5k to dnx36 out of Davinci, I dont use the rocket anymore to be honest... dont need it.

We came from a FCP/Color workflow and after the whole FCPX debacle we said screw it, why isn't it possible to move to a PC with more power at a lower cost?

We loved OSX and the hardware built specifically for the OS, but then Blackmagic came along and started offering Davinci for 1k so we re-evaluated. It was only the OS and Prores that was keeping us from switching.

The second hit was the lack of the Mac Pro updates. We needed something. We managed to stretch a 2006 maxed out Mac Pro until the end of 2012 and decided to go PC.

We took the leap and here's the result: http://on.fb.me/WrsPBp (it's our Facebook page with a pic of the internals).

We're looking at what happens when Dragon is released, but this beast as of current can crush our 5K in realtime (Premiere and Davinci) like it was an animated GIF. I suppose the only thing will be to add a Cubix and another Rocket if needed, but right now It's self-contained.

Could not be happier. Cost was just under 20k CDN.

We call it Big Iron, and it was built using Blackmagic's suggestions so it's a certified config. Thoughts?

Curious, since you have the gtx cards + a quaddro + red rocket. How would an application use the right card for the right situation? For instance, in Maya, the quaddro is superior to the gtx670(I have it), how does maya know which card to go to first for best performance? Or is it all hands on deck mode?!

thanks.

Great build!! Do you actually see any benefit from 96 GB of ram?!? holy cow. How many nodes does it take before it wont play realtime?

So many suggestions for encoding prores on windows! cannot wait to try these.........

noob question,

what do you mean when you are using the quadro for the "GUI" ?? So you mean just for the display and no rendering? GUI and is the OSX GUI?
