A few weeks ago, some friends and I competed in the 24-hour film festival sponsored by Apple. Days of Winter, our entry for the 2007 Insomnia Film Festival is now up for public voting. If you have seen enough Red HD footage for the next three minutes and would like to help our a fellow Red admirer, please take time out of your surfing and take a look at our film:

If you like it, hop over to the Apple Insomnia Film Festival site and give it 4 stars!

Voting ends Friday, November 9. Thanks for all your support and a special thanks to Larry McKee!

Nice work Chris!

I don't know if you are allowed to modify it in any way but if you can, my only suggestion would be to watch the audio cuts when you cut the shots; try to cross fade them so there's no obvious change in atmosphere audio. Even if you can't do this for the festival it's probably worth doing anyway for your archival copy.

Thanks for sharing,

Paul

That was pretty good Chris! A tad too shallow dof IMO, but regardles good. The grading was excellent. Give us some technical specs.

Good luck to you and your buddies!

Wow a long time ago... we didn't win, but here it goes:

JVC GY-HD110u @ 24/720p
RedRock M2
Nikkor Lenses (mainly 52mm and 24mm)
Premiere Pro 2.0 via CineForm Aspect HD
Graded with Color Finesse

Again, all in 24 hours. I really can't wait to do another project where I can really sit down and concentrate on everything. It was fun though.

this is one of the best 'film like' clip i ever saw in the web. Great job!

I want to do a 24-hour film festival... That would be really fun. Is there anything along those lines coming up in the near future?

We could!!! We could all divide into teams, and have someone from RED give a log line to everyone, then we would make our films and submit it somewhere. Maybe pick up a sponsor or something I dont know. Anyone interested?

I'm up. It obviously wouldn't be a Red thing because I want in and I'm sure most of us involved won't have Reds.

Good point, but I just figured we could get someone from RED to post the log line so no one would have any clue. I'm in as well.

I'll work more on it later. I'll find an independent party whether it be someone at Red or someone else who won't be involved in a project. It's bedtime, for now.

Everyone should jump on a plane to Auckland around May sometime and do the 48HOURS competition - I believe it's the biggest single short-timeframe film competition in the world... Last year there were 500 teams competing around New Zealand to produce a film in 48 hours.

I've used cameras from Rocketeer's company the last two years, maybe I can convince him to spot me the rental on RED #23 this year :bleh: Good test for the SolidStore... :)

Thanks, dudeman.

Apple insomnia was 24-hours and had 2800 teams worldwide. I wish I could compete in NZ with you. Visiting that part of the world is on my list of things to do before I die.

BUT! I would love to do one here. I'll post an official thread tomorrow.

Interesting visuals. However, I would suggest that any movie that you put up for display online via progressive HTTP download should have the QT-Movie resource atom in the start before media data -- in lay man's speak it means that use the "Fast Start" option while making a Quicktime movie. Your movie was close to 50 MB and one has to wait for all of it to download, which is a long time. You can make the Quicktime player start playing your movie while it is downloading (and not waiting for all of it to download first) by simply using the fast start option. In short, that makes a progressive HTTP download somewhat similar to streaming video as the Quicktime player will not need the whole movie data to start playing it and can start it immediately while downloading the rest in parallel.

Yeah I know about the fast start. We were under the gun when we put it online to send to apple so I must have missed it. They recompressed everything so their version had quick start for public viewing. Sorry it took you so long to download... :(
