as i see on the forum ,

fixed lens 8x lens as a larger body to accept this lens, but i was wondering if it was also possible to add different canon or nikon lens with a special mount ?
or it's not possible to change lens on this product ?

fred french scarlet dreamer .. ( also bad in english writting... lol )

The fixed lens scarlet will not be compatible with any other DSMC lens mounts, and I doubt that you can remove the lens.

It would be very useful to be able to switch from the fixed lens to another mount, but I believe that it was a problem with the size of the rear of the fixed lens which means it doesn't fit on the normal 2/3" Scarlet. You can use a lens converter like a Brevis or SGPro or something if you're not worried about losing a stop or so of light.

Fixed lens typically means "permanently affixed to the camera body", and as such, changing a fixed lens is not possible.

ok that what i supposed , so the lens while have a " screw " ??? like all other standard camcorder .

and thanks for the reply ! bye !

As there was talk about a wide-angle and a tele-converter there should be a way to mount them onto the fixed Lens. How is not clear till now.

Jim has said repeatedly that fixed means fixed. Most of the lens is built into the camera body, it will not be removeable. Tele and wide converters will work just like they do for current fixed lens video cameras, they will screw on the front of the lens like a filter. Or you can use an aftermarket optical converter to mount 35mm lenses in front of it.

Just to support what people are saying:

Fixed means fixed.

Jim

Not exactly sure why the reason matters... but the fixed lens in integral to the package. You cannot take it apart... anymore than you can remove the lens from an HVX.

If you want an interchangeable system, just buy any of the other brains.

Jim

If you want to use another lens then you don't want the FIXED Lens Scarlet!

If you want to use another lens then you need a DSMC with a mount that can be changed!

This DSMC system is the most flexible photographic tool ever!!!! It will do what you want it to if you utilize it correctly. However, when you ask a fixed lens camera to be an interchangeable lens camera you are asking for an something that is needless. There is an interchangeable lens option, in fact there is an interchangeable lens mount option. What you are asking is for a manual lens SLR to perform autofocus, or a digital camera to shoot film, there is no reason for this, you can get devices to do what you want. The DSMC system more than any other system offers flexibility, choose the system for what you want to do and then just add capabilities in modules as needed.

So the question actually shifts to the quality of the fixed lens.

Quality-wise: will it be of the first RED zooms range or the PRO RED lens range (that are being praised by some testers on this forum)?

I guess the answer to this question will decide how many will buy the fixed Scarlet package.

Well Jim swears by it, so I think it will be closer to their Pro lenses than their 18-50mm... though a completely different beast... it is not a fully mechanical lens so it probably won't be an easy comparison to anything else they have out. But he said something like a "no excuses" lens.

hey guys ! sorry for not understanding perfectly what the specs are !

but i was just wondering why is it possible to have a good deal with this cam and a 8X fixed lens ( that's a good thing specially because i 'm sure the lens will be very good )
and aslo why is it not possible to unmont this lens for other stuff !
why didn't they made a "only brain " 2/3 scarlet and a package with the 8x lens with the same brain !
i mean all brain go the same way , only this one is restricted !

i will go for the 8x fixed lens, i was just wondering why is it more cheaper to make this lens fixed ! ! but probably pro will tell me why !

Have you looked at the red.com site, where all of the proposed scarlets and epics are listed?

http://www.red.com/epic_scarlet/

Right next to the detailed specs of the 2/3" fixed zoom scarlet are the specs for the 2/3" cinema scarlet. The specifications are identical, with the exception that one has a fixed lens zoom and the other accepts 2/3" format lenses. Currently, the only Red lenses offered for this mount are "miniRED primes."

Well, I'm no Pro, but the Lens is build into the Brain. That's why it's not removable. I think Electrics like Motors for Focus and stuff are already inside the lens/brain, which saves stuff like connectors.

The cinema version will accept 16mm or S16 film lenses too via c mount or PL mount.

Because they are the same, except the fact that one has a fixed lens, and the other interchangeable ones?
