  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OTHER audio/video products we get pumped on while we wait for the release of Scarlet

I'll start... As an avid action sports enthusiast/filmer, helmet cams get me all tingly inside. The new Go Pro HD helmet cam (footage here: http://www.goprocamera.com/hdheropreview/) has gotten me the most pumped since the announcement of the Scarlet. 1080 and 720p. 720p up to 60fps, 170deg wideangle, SDHC cards up to 32gb, 3hour li-ion battery, waterproof housing, only $299 and SMALL. Seems to be an excellent cam to add to the quiver which will hopefully include a Scarlet soon. I pre-ordered right away.

What products is everyone else excited for/tying themselves over on (until Scarlet)?

Do you prefer the HD Hero specs & form factor to those of the ContourHD 1080p? It's also scheduled to be released in the next few weeks.

Tried to change my name before posting, but I couldn't oh well - i'll figure that out later. Anyways I just got my GOPRO HD in the mail this afternoon. It looks awsome! Unfortunately it has some serious issues so far. A) zero manual settings b) Zero Zoom c) No lcd (yet) so all the settings are made on a little black and white screen that requires all sorts of effort to make a setting change - makes sense I guess to fit it on a helmet but a pain for any other kind of use. d) Horrible in low-light - looks just as bad as any small "hd" camera like my panasonic still camera that boasts HD. I will do some tests tomorrow during the day to see how it holds up there - for now though, not too impressed. The movement is blurry when I pan quickly and there is massive noise in the blue channel.

Future cameras from Panasonic, Canon, Sony, JVC?

Future cameras from Panasonic, Canon, Sony, JVC?

... I'm definitely excited for what Canon and Panasonic have in store for their next-gen prosumer video cams. I like to think that with the advent of Scarlet, they're going to have to skip what they were initially working on as next-gen cams (typical minor improvements to ergonomics, SW, etc) and go straight to implementing 2/3"-sized sensors in an XL/HVX form factor, utilizing non-proprietary, solid-state media (e.g. SDHC, CF, XDHC? etc) and base it on a stronger acquisition codec (AVC-I, perhaps, in Panny's case at least). I don't expect to see these cams any time soon, especially with Panny just having released the HPX300, but it's nice to think that there will be even more great options for anybody in any situation in the next couple of years...

Also wondering what the people here predict will be the other manufactures' response to the Scarlet 2/3", and when?

2/3" sensors? More three 1/2" sensor cameras (besides the current Sony)? Increased low light performance? Codecs similar in quality to AVC-Intra becoming standard? Cheap laptop SSHD-based storage?
