Well, I want to start a new experience with this infernal machine.
A short I receive a HPZ 820. dual 8-core 2670 won on ebay for $ 2500.
Why not buy a new Mac Pro with Thunderbolt?
Simple, I want to upgrade a computer that I can do when I want and how I want, but most have pci-e slot, and for me now, the speed thunberbolt not 'enough.
I need 3 PCI-e x16 and with this I can have them :)
Now for years I work with OSX on HPz800, I have never had a problem and 'always gone well, so I want to go to hpz820.
Unfortunately, as Jeff said this PC suffers from some shortcomings, the cable routing, cooling, etc. ...
But I had no luck with winning :) so I remain faithful to HP.

The project continues on the same line of Machete , easy to install and fast, this relaise will be called "DRAGON" :biggrin5: On Mavericks *** 10.9 ***

Targets:

- 2 gtx 690 or TITAN (2x16 pcie) 4 GPu or 2 GPU (nice for DAvinci and REdcine-x, Jarred promise support for more GPU:)
- 1 Redrocket (1x16 pcie) or free slot for update
- 1 DeckLink 4K (1x4 pcie)
- 1 free x8 slot (for note card or upgrade to thunderbolt card)
will be difficult to operate all devices, but I'll try .

I hope to do, of course Machete will be 'free as I have always done for the community REDUSER.

Will need to pull power from somewhere for the second GPU. Z820 only has 3 6-pin power connectors and unlike the Mac Pro, there is a pretty hard ceiling on what you can pull through them. I have a single Titan card in my Z820 and it fits the bill for most things. I've tried to cram another GPU in there, but with the power restrictions and PCIe layout, it's better to just do the single GPU. Then I can actually have enough free slots for my other things. I figure that with a Titan and a Rocket X, my R3D workflows are going to fly on this box anyway.

I have never bothered with OSX on the Z820, mostly because until Mavericks, there really was not full support for all the hardware in the Z820. The internal RAID host (LSI) may work with OSX or it may not. I'm betting it will be alright since OSX supports most of the LSI SAS/ RAID hosts out of the box.

I await your response Jeff,
thanks for the info on the gpu and power supply, it will be a good bet mavericks ..
I prepared some kext, see if they will work.
LSI I have doubts, you know that model features chipset mounts? hpz820 all are equal or someone may have differences?
What scares me more and 'the flow of air .. I do not like and 'designed ..

UPDATE.....
I am happy to announce that everything goes well and everything works for now on 10.9 DP7.
Only onboard audio does not work, better to say that I do not care.
I have some minor problems with speed steep for the rest everything ok ..

We await the final version of Maverick 10.9.

I open a new thread on Davinci thanks.

Hi,

Did you get it working with two titans or 690's like you planned? Interested in going this way myself but wanted to check there was enough power to supply the cards after what Jeff said.

Thanks.
Peter.

Hello,

I'm working on a Hackintosh station with that is allways crashing RCX when I hit the export button (with RCX build 20 and 21). It starts to render and then crash. I didn't have any RCX crash during playback. Does anyone know what's the problem?

10.8.4, 3,4GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB ram 1600 DDR3, Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 2048Mo.

Sorry to hack the thread Luigi ;-)

CIao PAT;)
you have patched OPENCL? you have installed WEB driver NVIdia?

open terminal and paste this, close and reboot and try.

sudo perl -pi -e '$c+=s/\x8b\x81\x1c\x0c\x00\x00\xeb\x06\x8b\x81\x20\x0c\x 00\x00/\xb8\x02\x00\x00\x00\x90\xeb\x06\xb8\x00\x00\x00\x 00\x90/; END { printf "%s: %d substitution%s made.\n",($c==1 ? "Success" : "Error"),$c,(!$c || $c>1 ? "s" : ""); $?=($c!=1); }' /System/Library/Extensions/GeForceGLDriver.bundle/Contents/MacOS/libclh.dylib

ciao Swiss MAN ;)

Hello Luigi,

As I'm not the one who made the Hackintosh so I don't want to try it before asking the owner.

But I see that in REDCINE-X in the Export setting of my preset I can't enable the type of audio codec in the "Quicktime setting" "compression setting" "audio".

I know I allready had this trouble 1 year back but I don't know what resolved the issue.

Do you have any Idea? My system don't have any audio hardware working.

Thanks

Pat

and then 'possible that you have your sound card function ...
You have to see that the motherboard be and install the kext for your sound card.
