  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OSX 10.8.2 and REDRocket over Thunderbolt Compatibility Update???

Can someone from RED please come to the rescue ASAP? Once again, it's the 11th hour and the mission-critical system is a brick. Is it too much to depend on REDRocket drivers to work with the current Apple hardware and software? Please let me know when I can expect this issue to be fixed again. Thanks very much!

What laptop and what OSX version, what RR driver version?

I'll have to check my RR driver version but i'm on a rMBP with 10.8.2 and and a Magma chassis and it'w working for me.

Sorry to hear but I've had no issues with the same setup.

After latest OSX updates my REDRocket in Sonnet Pro Thunderbolt chassis no longer works again! I have tried re-installing drivers, re-starting computer, etc. This time around the REDRocket doesn't even show up in the system profiler! What gives?! Does anybody know how to get Rocket-over-Thunderbolt working (and stay that way)?! RED, please help!!!

Thanks,

I've been beta testing the M-Logic RED Rocket Thunderbolt enclosure and it has been ROCK solid with every Mac I have tested it on. So far it works flawlessly with a MacBook Air, Retina MacBook and 2012 iMac.

If M-Logic is solid I wonder if it is Sonnet that is the issue...

Sonnet explicitly advertise REDRocket compatibility. With all late-2012 Apple products this is simply false advertising. We had it working for a little while there, but now the very latest Apple firmware updaters seem to have broken it once again. Sonnet has previously claimed it's a REDRocket drivers issue. They offer no drivers of their own.

I have tried a late-2012 Retina MacBook Pro 13" as well as a late-2012 MacMini. Both were previously working. Both no longer work after latest Apple firmware. The REDRocket no longer even shows up in the System Profiler.

Try zapping your pram and plugging into the other TB port on the sonnet.

I have tried both ports, and numerous cables. I will go ahead and try zapping PRAM but I doubt this is the issue, as the problem now exists on two completely different systems (late 2012 MacMini AND late 2012 13" Retina MacBook Pro).

Had this same problem recently. Popped the Rocket back into Mac Pro, worked like a charm.

I should say that I have the 15" Retina as so far so good. The thunderbolt firmware updates from apple don't apply to the 15".

I'ts gotta be the apple update screwing things up agian. They need to make up their damned minds about this and stick with something so the hardware guys can write a driver that doesn't go bad with every new update.

I agree that this is the case, however, doesn't Apple release developer previews of their updates to their partners long before they're released to the public? I don't pretend to know all the politics involved, but it seems to me that developers SHOULD test these updates with their gear and react accordingly with updated drivers.

Sonnet claims the onus is on the PCI card manufacturers, even though they advertise compatibility with no documented caveats. I'm sure RED is frustrated with Apple for their part, but I've reached the tipping point where I have more downtime with this gear than actual use. Very frustrating.

I eagerly await a reply from RED as to when they might have a solution (updated drivers) available (again).

Bob, are you then running with Magma or Sonnet Chasis? AND using RR card? And what i hear you saying is that this update from apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1612 DOES not apply then to the Retina 15" MBP's.....Apple does not specify at all if 13" or 15"....it almost seems to me that you have a bad bus or don't....regardless if 15" or 13"....

I actually had everything working on my RMBP flawlessly with Magma & RR card via T-bolt...i recently updated to 10.8.2 AND have NOT yet tried out this configuration to know if it works or not NOW that I've upgraded my osx....BUT, i guess next week I'll find out.....

What a pity....I sure hope this is worked out soon. I can say this though...on my Tower with 10.8.2 I have had SO many problems, crashes running FCPX as well as numerous slowdowns with I-tunes and just general slow access to HDD's and all of the above....As usual, i regret making the update to the latest....
