  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OSX 10.5.7 Released

ok ... update is done ...

no problems ... so far ... restart was fine ...
im testing now some QT / FCP / RA / RR stuff ...

i'll keep you posted

MAC SPEC's:

MAC PRO 2x2,66 DUAL
10 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 3870
Blackmagic Design Intensity

ok, some quick tests ... and so far: everything is ok (the same) :)

System: still good and stable

QT: (still 7.6) h264 export -> OK ... ProRes -> OK ...

FCP: no changes (yet) Blackmagic Design Intensity performs the same

RA / RR: still good (both fast and stable)

so far no proapps improvements or degradation ...

i'll stay in touch ...

Previous system updates that gave up problems were related to storage architecture, QuickTime hack issues that Apple had to make drastic changes.
The 10.5.7 update doesn't seem anything drastic but minor updates. It doesn't look like it is anything important to update so I'm debating not to update. Only thing is the iPhone improvements.

If it ain't broke don't fix it is my rule for systems that pay the bills.

yeah ... i know ... never touch an runing system :embarassed:
but still everything ok ! ( btw: i alway have an external backup system in reach ... )

yes ... i think so too !

Micheal,

I've been pretty much brave about things but always make a carbon copy of the system and run the new and old system together :).

Noticed a 4fps improvement on the Mac Pro Nehalem 8 core 2.93GHz. Went from an average of 9fps to 13fps in RedCine. Also the system is about 100 points faster using Geekbench. Will be testing out Color to see if any improvements.

update:
13fps playback in Color too. This is a 5fps improvement over 10.5.6.

That's a good news. Thanks Andrae.

Thanks Michael and Andrea for testing.

Very brave!!!!!

Antoine
