What I am trying to accomplish is to share the offloaded camera mag files (R3D) between 2 computers by using one to offload while the other is busy transcoding/color correcting earlier copied files and access them via the same media pool attached to the offload computer. Main storage target being a 12TB Raid 5 on the offload unit.
I am running two separate computers on my DIT cart. Both are running Mt Lion 10.8.5 and I'm having some difficulty getting file transfers/copies to work between the two. They are both using cloned drives of each other, but I have changed the computer names on both - otherwise they are identical.
When I initiate screen sharing between the two computers, I can start a transfer/copy from one computer to the other, but it stops about halfway in between finishing and then goes to an error message. At that point I lose the connection between the two and must reboot/re-log in to get it back. I have the computers connected through an ethernet cable between them and have both set up on static IP addresses so that it doesn't change between boots. I have tried using Teleport as well as Apple Screen Share to drag/drop files between them, but both are unable to finish a file transfer/copy.
Wondering if any really knowledgeable OS X gurus can point me in the right direction to make this all work. Do I need to set up a VPN connection between them? Is there a really good third party software package to do this?
If I couldn't see the two computers and successfully share screens as well as access each other's drives then I would be in a different state. Having all of these things work, but not being able to transfer/copy files is maddeningly frustrating.
Hoping someone smarter than me can help. OK to PM me if it's long and complicated.
