The Orgio Start and Stop switch now supports the Sony F23 and F900 Cameras. Check our website for more information concerning this product. We still support the RED Camera and have sold more than 1,000 of the Origos. It has functions that no other switch in its category have including:

-Audio beeps for start and stop of the camera so everyone on set knows you are filming. This function can be muted.
-A battery meter showing you current power. Useful for when your RED is up on a jib or crane.
-Smallest switch made. Only 1 inch by 1 inch.
-Find one cheaper and that has been ran over by trucks, dragged by a tow vehicle, and submerged underwater ( We do not recommend this as Origo is not waterproof but it did work for about 15 minutes)

Go to Viewfactor.net for more information

It should also be disclosed that the Origo switch can cause serious and costly damage to the Red Camera that is not covered by the warranty and ViewFactor refuses to accept any liability whatsoever for the costs of repair (in my case $800). :frown2:

It should also be pointed out that that connector issue has long been resolved. If anyone is interested they can read through the 10 page posting under the crucial ordinance thread. All new shipping origos have Lemo connectors and are no more susceptible to damaging the camera than any other third party accessory that gets plugged into the auxiliary connectors.

Curt,

Considering that VF has consistently failed to deliver on every promise for the past 3 years the veracity of your assurances remains to be seen.

All I can say is: Buyer beware! You can buy yourself a $150 Origo and an $800 camera repair bill, not to mention a month of camera repair time.

Certainly my problem has not been resolved. You explicitly refused to do so.

and the 2 last posts should be deleted by a moderator, since it's as Curt says, a matter that is resolved. I understand that Pawel is angry but I'm not sure that this is a place for retribution. It's also a dispute over if they're (VF) actually are fully responsible or not.

No matter what Pawel's warning doesn't apply anymore

My Origo does have a current issue that I'd like to see fixed: It just beeps for no reason periodically, rendering it unusable for anything but MOS shooting. Has this been resolved? I loved the Origo when it worked, but once the beeping began, it just destroyed everything.

As an additional point, I wonder if anything has been done to keep the Origo consistent with respect to the status of the camera. Specifically, if you start shooting with the Origo, but then stop recording by hitting one of the camera's two record buttons, the camera stops, but the Origo's record light stays illuminated. The only way to eliminate this situation that I know of is to reverse the "error."

I do agree that Pawel's posts are over-the-top.

Does the camera provide that information out of the port? AFAIK it is just a GPI not a two way communication so there isn't any way for an outboard device to keep track if you use a different button.

Stephen, When the camera is stopped the Origo Record led should go off. Send us an email at info@viewfactor.net and we'll give you an RMA to get it fixed or replaced if there's a problem.

My colleague and I own three Origo start/stop systems with 50 foot cables.
Very good to have with jib type shots and the Mantis.

Even though the red is going wireless, there will still be situations when you wished you had a tethered start/stop system.

Fredrik,

I made a simple statement of fact that my Origo problem has not been resolved. Why should this be deleted?

What is inapropriate in me stating how much damage was caused by the Origo product? This is a statement of fact too.

Interpret those facts any way you like. They are true, correct and relevant to the thread.

Curt says many things. He also says that his products are shipping tomorrow or next week....for the past 3 years and we all know the veracity of those statements.:icon_bs:

Unfortunately, that's the way it is. I wish it wasn't.

No Pawel, you indicated that their product would still be faulty. when in fact it has been corrected. That is what I believe is wrong with your post.

If you would have said that you think they don't have a good custom service because they don't own up to their customers it would have been different. In this case (as said) your implying that their product is still faulty.

Thanks, Curt. . .

I'm sending in that email right now. Now that's service for you!

The damage was caused by the non Lemo cables when inserted in the wrong way into the camera. The Origo by itself had nothing to do with damaging the camera and that's a statement of fact.

I have an Origo that works perfectly for over a year.

I have a genuine Lemo plugs too.

edit: Your statement is not a fact, it is an assumption. You do not know what caused the problem.

This was ViewFactor's official identification of the problem and as far as i know nobody disputed that. If you say that it was just VF's assumption maybe it is because you found the *real* cause of the problem?

If you do know what damaged those REDs please share with us your statements of fact.

Milatos,

All I can tell you is that Red evaluated the problem and issued a warning to users just as I did. I am not aware of the warning to NOT use Origo was lifted by Red.

We don't know for certain whether it is the plug, Origo, cable or what. The facts are that I used Origo and nothing else. There were no symptomps that I could immediately attribute the failure to or even say when it happened. The camera seemed to function correctly. Red evaluated the camera during audio upgrade programme and reported that a power supply board was damaged by excessive voltage applied to one of the pins of GPIO port. This COULD be caused by shortening some of the pins by an incorrectly inserted plug however, my plug does not rotate and it does not seem to go the wrong way into the socket.

Red advised that the damage is not covered by the warranty and charged $800 for repair.

VF refused to accept any liability.

Make your own conclusions.

Over a thousand Origo sold...one or two person make a report of such. Is there anyone out there face such problem ? there're 900 over people more to be able to make justification origo is not working properly. As for mine, it works perfect, send my body back to RED for upgrade and back as usual, no report of damage.

Quoting Jarred Land:

Since the Origo has been shipping, we have received on average 2 cameras a week come back with Blown out camera ports that the Origo connect to.

And, this would not come as a suprise to you because you replied to Jarred's post. By saying one or two person, clearly you are misinterpreting the situation.

Jarred further wrote:

...We aren't trying to pick on Curt, It is just the volume of Origo issues we have seen warrants a warning specially since customers keep telling us they knew nothing about such issue...

Here is a link to the thread to refresh your memory, RivaiC.

Are you saying that Jarred is also exaggerating the problem? In this matter I rather trust Jarred. Curt has been saying many things on this board. Nearly all of which turned out not true.

I would rather not to take side pawel, my origo is working fine and so with my friends that owned it as well. It is understandable that you're upset since you're the one who face the problem.

Clearly misinterpreting the number of people is right, i forget that thread. But most people that i met that owned origo does not have blown out port.

I don't wish to take a side either. The only reason i jumped into this thread is that Pawel's crusade against Viewfactor is so intense lately that somehow i believe someone with a different VF experience should express it just to counter balance the negativity.

If my RED was damaged and i was suspecting Origo as the cause i might share his view but i was not and that's why i take this stance.

Perhaps if Pawel sent his Origo back at Viewfactor they could check it out and give a definitive answer.
