Like the title says, wondering if its worth it in late 2018. I have a Raven and filming action sports and wildlife work. Would love a Ronin 2 or Movi Pro but price is a bit high right now. I see Ronins going for 800-1000 used all the time it seems and wondering about picking one up. Just need something that can be used for everyday basic shots. Maybe a car mount ( I know the Ronin cant do high winds and high speed) but overall just have own a gimbal and have it in the tool kit.

I think the Ronin is still fantastic. It is a bit heavy compared to the Movi Pro but not as heavy as the Ronin 2. For the current price, I think it's worth it.

If you're renting it out with gear, there is definitely a limited lifespan. Many would opt for the newer but for a good price, they'll choose the Ronin over the new stuff if their budgets are tight.

If you're a owner operator, it'll be handy IF you don't have any other gimbal.

On a different note, many are trying to make the Ronin-S work with Reds. That too might be a good option depending on what you shoot.

In the end, if you're shooting with Cinema lenses, it won't matter what gimbal you shoot hand held. You'll need some sort of vest Ready Rig or Easy Rig or Exoskeleton to help with the weight and if holding for long periods of time.

I would go ronin MX. Hardware is a bit updated and the second battery is great for powering the camera.

Thanks, I have heard so many bad things about the MX i never even though of it. In terms of the Ronin S I dont want to make it work by doing all sorts of things. I just want it to work with whatever weight I have on it. I dont rent out my gear, just for me to use and produce content with right now. I will upgrade to a Ronin 2 maybe one day.

Id stay away from the ronin mx. The ronin works great. Just because a newer version of something comes out doesn't mean the version before is obsolete. until a year ago every production that wasn't using a movi, was using a ronin, with great results. Nothings changed. a used ronin is great bang for buck.

I have an M that I used with my Epic Dragon until I was able to buy a MoviPro. The only issue I ever had with it was the tilt motor overheating in 115 degree weather. was fine after 10 minutes inside. Aside from that it was a workhorse. I powered the camera via the distribution block to JetPack and was able to get 45 min + out of a battery. That was powering the gimbal, Epic Dragon and 5" monitor all from the DJI battery. I have a kit for sale with GPC case if you're interested.

Yeah the ronin 1 is lovely. I bought one when it was just released, sold it when the ronin-m came out. Recently sold my ronin-m and bought the original ronin back because it can carry more weight ^^

Whoa, that sucks on the car mount. I will have to watch for that for sure. I need to look into it more but seems like everyone here agrees to just grab one if the price is right.

Been a bit of time but thought I would ask before we get ready to buy here soon. The Ronin looks like it will do great for us but for a bit more we could get a Movi M15 it looks like. Would that be the better plan? What about a Titla Gravity gimbal or Gremsey H16, seeing alot of people liking those.

Not sure if you are still looking but I am selling my Ronin 1. It's in perfect condition and was barely used because I got the Movi Pro.
