If you pimp this out with dual 680M graphics cards, internal Raid 0, and 32GB memory - would this beast be enough for editing and grading on the move?

What would be your best bet for testing a grade when back home as I can't see an easy way to SDI out? Dreamcolor monitor?

Dual GPUs isn't going to help much. The only apps we discuss around here that benefit from dual GPUs are DaVinci Resolve and AfterEffects. The latter of which only uses it for its raytrace engine for titles and oddball things. Running Resolve from a system like this is kinda, uh, weird. It works, but then again, if you're trying to do it with 4K+ R3D's, the experience won't be so great.

The system is a powerhouse, that's for sure. It's also a monster of a "laptop" to lug about, it's not something you just throw in a shoulder bag or backpack and work totally mobile with. You need power to plug it into if you want to work for more than about 45 minutes on anything of significance. Having owned several large "mobile workstations" such as this in the past, I've found them to be somewhat of a misfit approach for most of my needs. Your mileage may vary on that, but if I'm going to lug something around that has that much power, I may as well get a real system and put it in a case with wheels. Like an HP Z1.... If I want a laptop, then I'll get a laptop. I rather like the HP EliteBook workstations. They're still reasonable enough to run for a bit on battery power and they have the DreamColor screens so you can attempt real color work in a pinch if you have a dark workspace or area where lighting can be controlled. And that seems to answer your question about testing a grade.

Both Premiere and Resolve (probably the two main apps I am likely to run with this) are both GPU heavy. I know Premiere only uses one GPU but Resolve should be able to make use of both. Do you think that Resolve would run badly on this machine or just not be very colour accurate until connected to an external monitor?

My main worry with the HP Elitebook laptops is the graphics cards aren't as much 'bang for buck' with the K series quadro cards. Maybe I am wrong having never used them.
