  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When i ordered my camera it says Fall 2016 for availability. now it says early 2017. Do you think i will get it in the fall like it says the time i ordered it? If it's in 2017 i might switch for a raven and save some money

End of Fall 2016 and just 2017 are 10 days apart. Have absolutely no real information, however I'd err closer to 2017.

Congratulations on placing your order! Welcome to the RED family.

When you think of Fall 2016, what does that mean to you? It would help to understand your expectations. You might want to contact your local RED dealer and see if they have any on pre-order as that might be a faster way to receive your camera.

I hope it's around november or so. I went through an official dealer in canada in the hope that it might be faster then if I was ordering it by myself.
 
Ordered mine in Feb. They told me May / June as date. Haven't heard since. Sadly no infos at all, not even a hint when it will be done. My rep says that, if I get lucky, it'll be september.
If there is no date till photokina I'll probably bail out. It just costs too much to rent and pay off the camera at the same time. sorry, but a really big downer by RED.

I understand people are starting to get antsy, but to put things into perspective the wait, EVEN if you were a first day raven order to first day SW switcher was about 7 months. Weapon MG upgrades took about a year, if not more. everyone knew there would be a wait.. so you are at the 7 month mark.. it sucks to wait, and even RED is saying they have ways to make it up to those who have been waiting.. not to mention they could just say nothing and still sell as many cameras, with no deals.
 
I'd wait until Helium arrives. A lot of people may jump to the new sensor, helping clear out the backlog of Dragon orders.
 
I ordered Dec 23rd, still no word. But I think once they start rolling out the early orders and catching up ravens the turn around will be faster.

Historically it has taken a while for things to start shipping. Things shipped slowly at first and then at some point it is like a switch is flipped and the amount of items shipped jumps exponentially.

Not sure where you are located, but you might find out if others in the area have already taken delivery of the camera already, or one of its cousins, and see if you can shoot with it. In the mean time, I would download as many R3Ds as you can and become familiar/comfortable working with them. Figure out how you plan to deal with the footage not only from processing but backup and archive. May as well use the time you have to work out the little details.

Do you have the rest of your kit? e.g. do you know what lenses you will be shooting with? You can always go to the local camera store and find a camera with a similar sensor size and use that to test the lenses you are interested in.

Waiting sucks for sure. Everyone that owns a Red camera has waited at some point, so we all know what you are going through. When I was waiting for the original RED ONE to ship, I bought a Canon 40D just to become familiar with working with RAW images. I also signed up and watched all of the RED based videos on FXPHD.com. They have a lot of classes on RED and if you have not seen them, I would sign up for one. Especially if you have never shot on RED before.

Agree with Nick and Stacey. The October announcement could essentially be a 'big reset' button affecting all our purchase decisions and shipping delimmas moving forward.

Except Helium and Scarlet-W have totally different price tags.

If there is a Scarlet Helium, then we're talking about cleaning the queue. But Helium, Epic-W and an unannounced Scarlet Helium to clear the queue ? I love Red, but I don't think so.

Pascal, did you order at Teltec?
I'm in the exact same situation as you. Ordered in Feb. No real information whatsoever yet.
They told me RED planned to deliver all the S-W that were ordered untill the end of July by the end of September.
But I'm starting to lose confidence.

What he means is that when people switch their WEAPON 6K orders to Helium, there will be more capacity to produce Dragon sensors for Scarlet-W
 
I cancel my order and bought it used witw low hours. I got
it now and i saved 2-3k on it. I just didnt want to wait 1 year maybe
 
I cancelled my order and got it used on this forum. 51 hours. saved 3k for it. At leats i didn't want to wait maybe a year.
I was in queue for 2 months before cancelling. I ordered from Applied electronic inc but cancelled when i saw it used

Wow, so you saved $3k buying it used? For how badly people want this camera, I figured it would get a lot of money on the used market.
