Any news on the redmote pro. I've been dreaming about it since before I bought my epic. The opititron seems very interesting, but I'd rather wait a little to have a red solution. Is it still in the works? Does anybody have any info on the availability?

Hoping to get some info, so I can make a conscious choice.

Thanks,

Pedro Faerstein

I really like the features of the OptiTron, but it does seem a bit bulky. I would like to mount this on the camera and I'm just not sure how that would work ergonomically.
The REDMOTE pro in it's early designs seems more ergonomic. But then this is available now and the remote pro is coming.... when?

Joe have you seen the OptiTron?
It's about the same size as the single axis Preston, actually a little smaller footprint and much better balance.
Half the footprint of Bartech
We could make it any size but I felt that if we made it smaller it would be a toy and would not allow us to provide meaningful separate controls for each axis...

Jacek,

The optitron seems perfect for me. I Will probably buy one in the next few days. I think its priced right. The only problem I see, is that I already have a red canon mount that will be useless if I buy your system. And I would fell bad if I boght it now, and a few months later red releases the redmote pro with similar capabilities and using my existing canon mount. I actually, can't understand why it hasn't been released yet. Birger could do it, you can do it, i'm pretty sure red could do it as well.

Can anybody chime in? Is the redmote pro going to be released any time soon?

I don't think so, everything we hear something about or that has a rough release date is already 6 months late most of the time, so if we dont really hear about it, it will be at least a year away...my guess

Another thing to consider is the poor performance of the original Redmote. I sold mine in the first week because it was so unreliable. I understand they are better now with the antennae upgrade, but it may be smart to go with the Optitron since it is clearly functional.

We have an OptitTron and we continue to use it heavily. I've just about forsaken traditional cine primes for most work- at least until the 6k dust settles. There is always something promising on the horizon, but I'm a little old school- give me a wheel to turn- i want a tool that simply works, and I want a product i can start amortizing immediately.

The only thing I'm really waiting for is the Nikon version- then I can use some of my favorite glass :) (14-24 rect, 1.4 primes, etc.)

Jacek - are there any plans on releasing a Nikon version of the optitron?

Maybe it's just the photos, I will consider it as a serious option. Do you have any pics of it mounted on an Epic? Having said that, what I'm looking for really doesn't exist. I just want a wheel I can mount on my rails that can control the lens electronically with no gears.
but that's very specific for doc stuff.

Joe that's exactly what OptiTron is- a wheel mounted on the camera(rods or anywhere else for that matter) that controls the lens without gears. I'm not sure how it's different from what you need....

Thank you Joe,
Maybe after the pro version takes off we'll make a "lite " version smaller for docu style work. With smaller cameras that may be the way to go but I don't want to spook the ACs with tiny device.
I respect their legacy and the reasons for it....

I really want pricing on the Optitron, and to try it out before I buy. I mostly use a set of primes, but a good option for my Canon glass would be very appreciated.

Email me directly so we can work something out for you to feel confident with testing and purchasing...

Jacek I'm interested too, but I really don't like the 'reinventing the wheel' here; RED have provided perfectly good electronic mounts for Nikon & Canon, and who knows, maybe more to follow. And a remote receiver (REDmote) system already built right into the camera.

IMHO - and it IS humble, you've done a lot for RED customers - you should have taken the time to make your product into, essentially, a 3rd party REDmote Pro - a wheel that worked directly with the existing camera communication and lens mount functionality.

I think for sure there's an untapped market here; I would definitely stump up for a 3rd party set of FIZ wheels, with the F & I going through the camera body and the Z on its own channel to a receiver/motor. And I'd pay for a 3rd party REDmote alternative - something that ditches all the fancy buttons, arrow keys, and displays, and just has five big analogue dials on it marked, in big friendly letters, 'SHUTTER', 'ISO', 'IRIS', 'GAIN L' and 'GAIN R' - just like the old mechanical days... these are the things I just want to reach for and touch without even thinking...

Come on hardware guys, get hacking! Get imaginative! RED have given us the camera and the interfaces, let's use that technology to build Neat Things to offer different ways of working with the camera. Heck, I know people who would pay serious coin for a *steampunk style* REDmote. Let's play a bit!

Mike

I love to play, but not with fire:thumbsup: too old for that. I will ask Jarred next time I see him and we'll see what he says...
