  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Optitron 2 - experiences

Actually, I was referring to many Canon still lenses, which is the target market for Jacek's work, not the CN line, which I have no experience with.
That is correct but the (L series and CN primes) optical design is the same except for maybe tighter tolerance "cherry picking " glass and, possibly , coatings.
Here is to someone (Resolve?) coming up with a LUT to alleviate the breathing for those that loathe it in lenses.
BTW we have a END OF THE YEAR Special on all OptiTron 2 flavors going on now...This is the time to get it ;-)
It is officially approved 3rd party accessory by RED now ;-)

The CN E canon's also have 11 blade iris which smooths out the bokeh. I want to mention something about Monstro sensor. I took mine to Nick Morrison's studio and we went through over 30 Contax lenses and we were blown away. I had only had it a week and mainly shot with Otus 55 and it was super, but what the Contax test did across a huge range of focal lengths was to point out, and I think Nick agrees that the Monstro sensor size is what these lenses were designed for and boy did they fit like a glove. It was bordering on a revelation. When I got home, I pulled out the CN E 85 and 50 and it was just luscious, gorgeous, glamorous skin tone city. These are also lenses designed around ff35. Jacek can you chime in on this? I mean, I don't think we are making this up, they just seemed to fit. Today I took the 16-35 f4 and 24-70 f4 and 70-200 f4 all is and nd'd to shoot at 5.6-8 to the beach in the east end of Long Island and just am smitten by their performance. I am so anxious to get the new 85 1.4is- to hand hold a fast 85 is a long sought dream.

That's funny because that is the difference between their FD lenses and K-35s mainly. The 11 blade iris. I guess they just applied the tried and true formula. I think by now we figured out what works and what doesn't on digital cameras. Chromatic aberration looks ugly but a little spherical aberration does not hurt at all. It was the other way around with film...
