  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Optitek Nikon Prolok for EPIC - shipping yet?

Thanks guys- We are on schedule so far.:thumbup1:

Hi Jacek, any update on the current batch? Still a couple of weeks at least before getting the Epic so not pushing, just want to know if everything is still on schedule.

Thanks!

Is there any kind of adapter for the original Prolock (for the Red One) so that it will fit on to the Epic?

NOPE---it's a completely different mount in EVERY way...would NEVER work with any sort of adapter for epic...gotta get a whole new mount. But well worth it.

Jim,
All good here, you should be getting your tracking soon.

Anybody got their setups with the ProLock photographed?
Please post some images here!!!!!

I have had mine for a couple of weeks now but have been travelling, so today was the first time I got to use it. First impressions... easy to mount, well machined and a sturdy piece of kit. Excellent build quality and easy to use, love the positive locking - it took a 50-300 Nikon and 300mm f2.8 without any need for a lens support, and I think it would stretch to the 500mm f4 - thanks Jacek!

Thank you Mark,
It's great to see a pro speak so positive about my creation.
I hope you get some, otherwise impossible, footage with it.
That's what it's for.
Any chance we can see images of your setup?

That would suggest that you mount the lens to the tripod and let the Epic hang on to it.

That would work for bare Epic fine.
If you attach all accessories like VF, LCD, batteries, top plates, rails, Epic can get hefty.
Note that the ProLock flanges are Stainless Steel so it will hold up. The lens mount however is likely to bend since it's usually brass(chrome plated).
For the sake of your lenses we recommend supporting lenses equipped with support collar as a general rule.
Follow this rule and your lenses will last......

Jacek - Here you go... Epic, Optitek prolock and Nikon 300mm2.8

another setup-Thanks Mark!!!

Here is Mark's setup with a 300mm f2.8.
I probably would not go any bigger without support, but this is the testimony to the structural integrity of the ProLock:thumbsup:

I agree Jacek - unsupported, the 300mm is fine as long as there is no rough treatment and it is straight in and out the case. Anything more, such as use on a balcony mount on a 4X4, and I'll be going to 15mm LW rods and Zacuto 1/4" lens support.
