  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Optitek Nikon Pro Lock Mount

at this point no big deal.

at this point no big deal.

Okay, thanks, Jacek. Will do. Will these mounts fit on Epic X, or will I need a whole new mount?
From the latest info it looks like just a simple block to adapt-no big deal.
I also have an idea for what could be a very useful feature in the block but we'll
talk about it when the time comes-the Epic time that is...

Jacek, this mount rocks! The lens is very solid when mounted. No more slight shifts in position. I thought I would just use the iris gear to adjust the aperture on DX lenses, but I have found that I really like being able to change iris comfortably while keeping my eye in the EVF. No more twisting my fingers around the FF to get to the ring on the lens. Great design. Thank you for taking the initiative to build this mount.

Jacek, will this mount hold a Nikon 80-200mm AF-D that weights 2.8 lbs without supports?

heavy lenses.

heavy lenses.

The Prolock is built stronger that the original mount. I do caution in the manual against hanging heavy lenses on the mount so someone doesn't try to put a 300f2 on the cam without support. In my opinion the lens mount being made of brass is weaker than the Prolock so it will bend first. I don't own that that lens but will ask around the proLock users and let you know.
Maybe someone can post their results here if they tried it yet.

Tom, we shot 20% of a feature film with the 80-200 and used original Red mount with no support. Not the best idea perhaps , but I had no problem, the mount did not suffer any problems. I suppose Jacek mount having an extra oomph, should be just fine.

Hi Jacek what is the price of the mount?

Optitek Nikon Mount for UNDERWATER shooters

Optitek Nikon Mount for UNDERWATER shooters

Just got Jacek's NEW Gear for the OptiTek Nikon mount in order to use in the Gates "deep red" housing. It's a larger (has more tooth area) for the deep red iris gear to mate against. Easy to install as the original red gear from OptiTek merely unscrews and you then slide on the new wider gear and screw it back in place with three hex screws.

I think Gates has ordered twenty or so of these gears and they are only available from Gates as they were special ordered (in order to fit the "deep red" housing). Soon off on a shoot and will post pics of the mount in place on the deep red as well as screen grabs of various Nikons in use underwater.

...Liking this mount!

So I got my mount, mainly to swap to Nikon in case I lack light with my Red PL zooms...

I haven't tried it yet, but a guy in a store said the G and DX lenses were meant for small sensor cameras, he said I needed the F series lenses... Does that mean the the Gs and DXs vignette or I have to shoot 2K cropped sensor or something?

That'd be a bummer for no F lenses I know open past 2.8, just like the Red lenses, so pointless to swap in low light then...

I was so hoping to use my f1.4 & f1.8 Gs and DXs with it!

Lewis, don´t worry, try it. My DX lenses cover all 4,5K without any vignetting. The Tokina 11-16mm is a DX lens . The DX sensor is almost the same size like S-35mm Mysterium.
Cheers,
Marc

Yes, "DX" series lenses only cover Nikon's APS-C sensor (which they've rebranded DX for some reason) but that's 24x16mm, which means these lenses will cover the full Red One sensor.

"G" series lenses are simply those that lack a manual aperture ring. It has nothing to do with coverage. Some "G" lenses are "DX" and some are 'FF35' (or "FX" as Nikon is now calling it). Don't know where this guy got his information.

Lee is correct... The G callout on Nikon lens purely means there is no aperture ring... it does not have anything to do with the size of the image circle.

Thanks guys, that makes a whole difference. That means I can access a lot of f1.4 lenses now! I love my Red zooms, but they're sometimes tough to work with in low light situations. I wanted to get the Red primes, but now that I know the anamorphics are coming one day... I'd rather wait for those as I only do narrative in scope...
