Optar ELITE "Panther" 7mm t1.3 S16 PL mount lens and Optex Colcine 2x s16 extender
Hey everyone,
This is the ULTRA WIDE rectilinear lens I used to get whole rooms at a time. You can get an establishing or master without leaving the room, which means you don't have to deal with a reset for lighting while tracks are moved or sticks are shoved into the corner.
I've also put this on cameras on a gimbal, allowing me to walk behind a subject closely and capture almost 150º of the horizon—and because it's perfectly rectilinear, I could cheat a cropped crane shot.
This lens is also FAST. At t1.3 (f1.2), you can go toe to toe with superspeeds but get nearly double the FOV.
I originally used this with my aaton, but this lens got a second life with all the new cameras and sensors that can take advantage of s16 lenses.
I have personally tested the following with this lens:
— 4k on RED HELIUM sensor
— 2k on dragon sensor (maybe 3? forgot to check)
— HD on ARRI ALEXA/AMIRA sensor (SUP 4.0 or later)
— 4k on A7Sii/A7Rii/a6300/6500 with clear image zoom (great feature!)
— 2k on FS7 center scan crop
— BMPCC
— Ikonoskop
— GH3 cropped (haven't used the gh4 or gh5)
This lens is wide enough that more than a PV double mattebox can catch the edge of the frame. Yes, that wide. I used an MB456 or a MMB1 usually with this lens. The Lens is so wide that to fit in smaller matteboxes, you have to unscrew the sunhood (see last photos). I think it's 100mm with the hood and around 90 without it.
A lot of guys call this lens 'The Panther' because Panther rebadged a few of these lenses in the 90's and the LA rental house folk would call this lens that. It's also deeply satisfying to bark at an AC "Give me The Panther!" as you both try to not crack up.
I'm also selling this 2x s16 Extender that works with this lens and the canon 8-64 that I have posted. 1 stop loss, great extender. Also have a set of optar Illuminas for sale, but I gotta take photos of those, as they just got serviced by steve at duall but I haven't picked em up yet.
I'm looking for $2800 for the 7mm ELITE and $900 for the extender, but would bundle (or add the 8-64) for a deal.
Any questions, feel free to ask! Also, if you're in NYC, feel free to come by and check this lens out.
thanks!
