  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Opinion's Please... rugged portable disk array with integrated UPS for on set use...

Just a quick question, after reading Brook's thread and seeing that the laptop was not possible, do you think your set up would be able to accommodate the esata multiple CF card reader?

Imran I mis reading your question... Better late than never...

The system I design will have a double CF reader (each on a separate sata channel) plus docking for 1.8" and 2.5" SSD disks. All disks will have a separate sata channel, my design has 10 sata channels...!

Additionally the front panel could be customized to accommodate all feature requirements for data handling.

For data storage it will have a five 2.5" SSD raid5 internally plus two removable data cartridges (with up to 1Tb each) that will have a similar performance as the sonnet Fusion™ F2...

Sounds brilliant, how far is it from completing? Has it been tested on sets yet etc. ?

The target price is 9K$ but its going to be difficult... its more likely that I will end up with 11K$...

The basic system, quad i7, with the 1Tb SSD disk array (5x 2.5" disks), GPU, system SSD (2x 2.5" disks), CF readers, batteries, waterproof 12" monitor and waterproof illuminated keyboard/trackball.

All other cards will be additional or user installable. Like Kona/BMD, RRocket, FC card, Fuel kit etc.

The idea is to have a very fast deployable system able to support all digital cinema cameras as a DIT workstation either by doing simple data wrangler tasks or/and as a dataserver or/and as an uncompressed capture system or/and as a color grading system with 4 hours of autonomy.

The disk array that is shown on this thread is just an expansion of the actual computer system that I design. Just to get an idea, it will have the same form factor.

In the coming weeks I will disclose performance numbers on the backup speed of the system. Which is designed to support uncompressed workflows... so for RED files it will be blazing fast...!
