Introducing Open AI's Sora: Text to Video

By
AIGener8

To state the obvious, we all know that text to video AI is only going to get better, in fact, so good that no one watching will really care, or know, if it is AI or not.

This whole topic of AI is seriously complex, yet when it pertains to video creation, it certainly does not bode well for those of us heavily invested in gear.
A single visionary will soon, if not already, be able to create an entire movie without leaving the computer. The need to hire cinematographers or grip trucks is going to be significantly reduced, leaving us to lower our prices in order to get any work.

What does this mean? I would predict that many will be driven out of biz, and the value of used gear will plummet when the used market becomes saturated.
There will be thousands of artists, as there are now, and all the big movie studios, who will create a tsunami of movies ready for distribution. Supply will far outweigh demand, driving the value to new lows. The Mega Media corps won't really need to look elsewhere for content. They can take what they own now, run it through AI and voila, a new movie that looks great and has a winning story programmed into it. John Wayne, Cary Grant, Bogart and Hepburn live again!!!

As is the current situation, without a recognizable STAR, or stars, these great looking 'films' produced by the little people will have little actual monetary value. Only those with gigantic promo budgets and the ability to show their work to immense audiences are the ones who will profit.
The cost of creation will take a plunge, which is good for the Mega Media corps because their streaming biz model is unsustainable.
And of course, the bottom feeders, Copyright Lawyers and other legal service providers, will be in high demand, both for offense and defense.

Theres a good video on youtube about robotics taking over jobs. Its not just one line of work either its everything from truck driving to doctors. Nothing is safe, even creative work is now at risk. Here is the link if anyone is intrested, good video and its a few years old now. Between robotics and ai we are going to have a big issue with the workforce if things don't become regulated some way.

Yeah,

Just think how bad the Ai videos were just a year or so ago, now you look at what Sora is creating an you think damn that was fast. Who knows at what a point this will be at in about 3 to 5 years from now. For

We should troll AI algorithms as much as we can. Feed it fake data like movie titles, people, concepts, etc. Already, some algorithms can't tell when you're asked a fake question. It's quite funny.

Well, the two observations I have is: 1) this is just photorealistic animation. It's no better or worse than the amazing films that filmmakers like Bob Zemeckis and Jon Favreau have done in the past 15-20 years. They all have limitations, they don't necessarily feature "movie stars" in the traditional way, but there is an audience for this kind of entertainment. But I don't necessarily want to see movies that are made without people.

2): I agree with filmmakers like Hiyao Miyazaki on the artistic problems of photorealistic AI:

And Tyler Perry has it right as well:

After Seeing OpenAI’s Sora: “Jobs Are Going to Be Lost”

The actor, filmmaker and studio owner is raising the alarm about the impact of the tech, saying, "I feel like everybody in the industry is running a hundred miles an hour to try and catch up, to try and put in guardrails."

Marc,

I think AI programs like Sora will eventually find a way to incorporate actors, under some type of legal limited contractual agreement with those actors, into these new AI driven movies at some point. The big problem with AI is that no one knows where it's actually headed to. Will it be constrained at some point to better benefit us as humans in most aspects of our lives or will it relegate us to second class citizens. However AI is just another thing we can throw under the heading of " NEW AND IMPROVED THINGS AND WAYS THAT WE'VE CREATED TO FUCK OURSELVES "

It will probably took several weeks if not months for me to create a single scene like that in Blender... 🥲 The storyteller side of me is so excited that I can now make my fantasy and wildest imagination into a reality (I always wanted to create this aviator cat character with all the leather outfit, goggles and steampunk propeller planes exploring into unknown territories of the world searching for "The Golden Fish"). 😼 It feels almost the same way when I first got my RED camera and all the dreams of making blockbuster movies, cinematic documentaries, etc. could become a reality.

I am in 100% agreement. I'm totally for virtual production systems like ILM's Stagecraft, where they have "prebuilt" virtual backgrounds and actors who are lit in a physical space, and a combination of traditional sets and screens creating the environment. I'm fine with that, and it's worked out well for the Disney/Marvel shows (and many others).

But I'm against having completely synthetic actors and sets that eliminates the use of cameras, crews, technicians, and production artists. When you do that, it basically becomes photorealistic animation... which is all well and good. There's a place for that. But not when it replaces every single union in Hollywood and takes away every job.

I'm told there's another LA camera rental company that shut down this week, and they claim part of it was "lower demand due to reduced production and more A.I." I dunno if it's true, but that's what I was told.

Marc,

It's just kinda scary.I always believed that the creative process of creating Art , writing stories and making movies...etc, would always be a thing that only came from the depths of the Human mind, heart and soul. And that nothing artificial would ever have a chance of realistically duplicating that. However every few weeks and months from all around the internet and from the news I'm being proven more and more wrong.

Ai was something that you only read about or saw in movies of Sci- Fi fiction and that it would never possibly affect me in my Lifetime and that it would only materialize in some distance future generation. But now it's here seemly looking myself and all current generations right in the face like some large stray dog youve come across whose intentions towards you you are not exactly sure of, does it want to play with you or attack you.The really sad thing is that so many people are completely oblivious to it's existence and how greatly it will affect them and the world around them at an ever growing increasing rate. Things like their employability, what they see and hear may no longer be relied upon to be true or real, and just their general place in this world without the knowledge and " know-how" that so many other people will have with AI that they just won't have.

I'm sure some things will be improved I'm sure some things will get better. But I also know that with every new invention with every new thing that we say will make our lives better, easier and more enjoyable that someone will use it to exploit some aspect of division in our society among different groups of people from different cultures, ethnicities, countries, economics classes and religious beliefs or for just pure evil. The younger people may simply embrace it as a new more enjoyable way of life or like a new friend. However most of us older folks have been around long enough to see great intentions turn to shit at break neck speeds.

I think we are balancing between it's either going to go bad or fade away. I've heard many IT professionals say "it's the next blockchain". People were talking all the time about how blockchain can improve so many companies. But at the same time I read somewhere that one of these ai makers carries a "nuclear football" with him at all times, just incase the AI goes rogue he can destroy the severs remotely.

Ai isn't going to Fade away because it's becoming more and more embedded into our everyday lives. Ai is like a Cancer, if we catch it in it's early stages we can undo some of the damage it has inflicted. However once AI has Metastasized into our lives intrinsically, we won't be able to destroy it without it destroying us.
