  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Open Source Cinema Camera

It's using the elphel camera.... Uh...

In other words, this is an open source camera effort centered around the equivalent of a mid-range "HD" security camera.

JP4

JP4

I talked to them about adding a true RAW port so it could be used to record higher quality, but still set up the sensor with their existing hardware.

The guy that developed some of the circuit they seem to want to base the camera on has his own ideas of quality, and does not seem to care about histogram gaps from 8 bit data that has been compressed somewhat like jpeg. He has an offshoot with split green gains.

...so look at the results for artifacts.

Here is a link to his paper on JP4, not quite REDCODE, nor will it likely be if it stays 8 bit,

This whole open source thing is sort of a scam since you cannot develop new things based on what you learn from their work, unless you give them the right to take what you develop, too many strings attached, maybe. It should be placed in the public domain for anyone to do anything with then it would really be "open". Best not to even look at stuff on their sites to avoid entanglements, maybe.

Thanks for the support Dan!

I would not really call the GNU General Public License a scam. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gpl
Where did you get that idea?
