  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

When the Scarlet is released it will have a single 2/3" sensor. HVX's and EX1's, for example, both have three sensors (granted they are smaller than the Scarlets). Is there any difference, good or bad, to having three sensors rather than one.

A single CMOS chip (vs a 3CCD design) is much cheaper to build and doesn't require special lenses. On the other hand it brings it's own problems like rolling shutter issues. I don't think comparing image quality is really cut and dry though because it probably depends on the design of the whole system. It seems like in general everything is moving toward CMOS.

It's not just a question of 1CMOS vs. 3CCD. You could have 3CMOS design like 3CCD designs, with a prism. From the sounds of various discussions, one of the limiting factors of creating 3 sensor designs is that with large sensor, the overall rig becomes very large.

CMOS is where the advances are being made, and 3 sensor designs with chips this size (2/3" and larger) don't seem practical.

Oops, sorry for the misinformation. I didn't know about 3CMOS designs.

Man, how does Mr. Nattress crams so much technical knowledge inside his brain? It must be super-sized! He should get some sort of award for everything he is doing for Red, don’t you think?

It's funny you say that, but I have a rare brain condition where my brain is too big for me head (or is it my head is too small) and it causes me a lot of bother. I'll tell you the story if you get enough whiskies into me :-)

Is it a three chip brain or just one really big chip?

Two chip, I think.

Do You get massive headaches (or migraines) before a storm (when the pressure goes down) or when You get dehydrated?

If so - I have the same issue (with the same diagnosis) and I know what You going through... :waaa:

Good to see You back - where have You been last week?

Two chip, nothin'. . . Graeme's brain is definitely BLUE Chip! (Sorry, RED.)

:-)

I don’t know, Nattress, but you really have to be smart to do your thing. You are putting a brain into this Reds. Or are you cloning yours inside them? Hummmm…..

Drop me an email Peter and we can compare notes!
