Wondering if there are video samples considering this can't be compared to anything else?

Gregory Mirand, President of Luma Tech (makers of Lomo Illumina lenses and the LumaCon collimator) was given this lens back in 1994. It has been literally sitting in his air conditioned closet for over two decades...never seeing the light of day.

We have no way of making any video because we don't have a 65mm format camera. Consequently, I don't think any footage was ever made with this thing. I wish we had a way to show people how it works, and its performance, but I don't know how. Ideas?

Have any other 65mm format zoom lenses ever been made?

Does anyone know if there are any other 65 format zooms ever created? I figure there should be, but I can't find anything online.

Hi, David.

What a nice and rare lens you have! I haven't seen and heard about it. Does it have some model number other than Vario-Optar?

yes, there was 70OPF5-1 40-240mm f4.5-5.6
and some early large format others like 50-100mm

Ilya,

Thank you for letting me know about the 70OPF5! These types of lenses are so rare, it's insane.

No...there is no model designation other than Vario-Optar, that I could find. My dad (Gregory Mirand) doesn't really remember much about this lens. All he could tell me was that JSC Optika made one 65mm zoom, and he just happens to own it. Why they made one, and only one, is a mystery. I wish I could show people footage made with this lens, but I don't believe there is any (considering it came out of the factory, and then directly to Gregory's closet for 20+ years).

I also don't know how I can show this lens to anyone, unless they come to South Florida with a 65 format camera (which is another feat in itself).
