HI, maybe someone could help me out here.

I have a RED DRIVE full of files, and the third take is being quite stubborn, it´s approximatly 5 Gbs in size, and at exactly 1.52 Gb it stops unloading time and time again.

As I understand it Disk Warrior will not work with the Red Drives, is that correct. any other software that is recommended.

I get the clip to play (at least partially) from the Proxies, trying to export from Quicktime results in an error, RedCine X doens´t recognise parts of the file and will not open it.

I could possibly run RED undead, but I am really uncomfortable using the Terminal, and it would probably take forever.

Any suggestions welcome, thank you!

(PS: As I understand it from my client, this is not a life or death kind of thing, but retrieveing the clip would be really nice)

I had exactly the same problem a few days ago with the first file on the drive.
I managed to transfer everything except that one. I tried everything I could think of.
I fired up the drive the following day and the file transferred with no problem whatsoever, to my obvious astonishment.

Strange Behavior indeed.

Hi Eirik

Did you play back the clip and does it play back fine on the camera?

If so, one thing you might want to try is to borrow another mac and set up that system to do the transfer.

I know that sounds strange, but I have had situations where one of my systems will read the files while another will not.

Good luck!

It sounds like something RSyncX might be useful for. It's basically a GUI interface of a terminal command and will perform an incremental backup, so it will pull little bits of the file at a time.

Also, REDUndead is quite easy to run. The terminal commands are pretty straight forward, don't be scared of Terminal! DOS was way worse.

virus scan????

Not the sort of thing that would be caused by a virus, it's a hard drive structure issue. Filling a drive to maximum capacity is never a good idea. Always try to keep a minimum of 20-30% free on any drive or risk data loss and hindered performance.

Let me know what shakes out.

We had this problem b4 as well. Twice now in 2 months. Seemed the file was corrupted some where in the middle of the file. It would start the copy then just hang up. Tried 5 diff computers and FW cables. Nothing. Best I could do was render it out on my rocket 2K full debayer to prores444 and put in and out points around the bad media. Good luck.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I found a way that worked for me this time.

I had already tried it on two different machines without success, and in several ways, including trying to generate PRORES from the Quicktime proxies. (thereby sneaking the content out the backdoor.)

What worked was that I simply transferred each of the three R3D files separatly, for some reason they all slipped through without a hitch, put them in a folder, opened up in RedcineX everything looked good, generated new proxies, and a ProRes for inspection.

All fine.

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions, I will save this thread and keep it for another rainy day.
And by the way Gunleik mentioned in a PM that R3D Data Manager can access RED Undead via a GUI, so that´s another reason for me to finally get that app.

Thanks.
