Hi

I don't know if this question is already asked but i want to know what is going to happen with al the Red One camera that are turned in for an Epic Camera?

Thanx

Wouter

Been asked and speculated on several times. No one knows (except Jim that is!)

They won't be going to film schools. I think Jim already mentioned that. I'm sure there is a plan in place for them that will benefit RED's purposes as well as that of the user base. They won't be heading to a scrap heap, that much we know.

Ok, i hope they are going back on the market because 4k is enough for me :)

Maybe Jim wants to set up the world's largest "bullet-time" rig with 3000 cameras! In which case he'll just keep them!

We haven't seen a 2 minute continuous bullet time before, another world first for Red! :willy_nilly:

Yeah, the R1 will be around for a long time. It may be easier to pick one up once everything settles with Epic and Scarlet and quite honestly, unless a project's aesthetics require film (which won't be going away entirely yet either) indie filmmakers should be able to get a lot of mileage with an R1.

You have a good attitude about it Wouter. If you're able to get your hands on an R1 at a good price point sometime in the near future, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you. I'm still supporting RED while i'm waiting for the skarlet, like everyone else, for a year now. I really want the skarlet but if there is an option to get the "old" Red One i will take it with both hands :)

There certainly would be a market for all the traded in Red One's. I would definitely be interested in purchasing one, just as Wouter has said he would as well. There's two sold already (:

I suspect most if not all will be upgraded to Mysterium-X sensors which will make them pretty much like an EPIC save the frame rate features. There are a ton of great accessories built around the RED ONE body which will be cheaper and more widely available than EPIC or Scarlet counterparts for while to come.

Live on RED ONE. Like Jim said originally, rendering obsolescence obsolete!

They will be used to help revive some of the older formats from death.
Like a digital front end for the old quad 2 inch tape machines.
Imagine how impressed your clients will be when you wheel in the New and improved hybrid 2 inch IMAX along with Red compressor and fully digital Red IMAX front end!

They're going to send them to me, after which I will disassemble them and use the parts to construct a giant evil robot. My destiny for world domination will soon be fulfilled.

I'm thinking they may hold their value pretty well if they try to resell them. After all, where else can you get an unmanned 4.5k robot to just point at a scene from a distance. One good money shot crop pays for the camera and the 640 GB drive whether used in a movie or papparazzi world.

Kinda like Michael said, just releasing a newer model won't make these cameras obsolete.

The interior boards are probably still great. They might get used in another camera in the program.

Getting rid of 3-5 thousand camera's might be a bit of an environmental problem. Probably best to break them down and repurpose the parts instead of storage or landfill.

Not sure what the plan is there.

The camera is fairly brick-shaped. A bit of mortar around the sides and it can make a great building block. Think of the front lobby to the RED Ranch in Vegas ...
